In its 200th anniversary year, the Herend Porcelain Manufactory is presenting the values of its porcelain art in many special locations. In July, we launched a new series sharing snapshots of the most beautiful moments and the atmosphere of our exhibitions.
Our second location is Galanta, where the beautifully renovated Esterházy Castle hosted our anniversary exhibition.

Two successful centuries – Herend 200
30. Independent company

1981 marked a significant turning point in the history of the Herend Porcelain Manufactory. The company separated from the Fine Ceramics Industry Works to continue its operations as an independent state-owned company. The company remained state-owned but was granted greater professional and financial independence, which enabled more flexible operation, more efficient management and faster adaptation to the expectations of the domestic and international markets.
At that time, Herend was already a well-known name worldwide. The demand for classic patterns and handmade porcelain was continuous, so it was particularly important for the Manufactory to shape its development based on its own traditions, the expertise of its masters, and international connections.
The organizational transformation of 1981 proved to be a decisive stage. It created the stable foundation on which the Manufactory could build in the following decade, and which would contribute to renewal and further changes.
Independence was not only a new organizational form – it was also a new opportunity for Herend to continue writing its success story along its own values.
