Q: Hi Nicole, can you tell us more about you and your business?
A: I am Nicole Marianne. I launched Marianne Savonette about 6 years ago and I propose ‘100% natural and handmade Soaps and Oils’.

Customers have a large choice of handmade soaps made with coffee, charcoal, papaya, banana, sea salts, tomato, potato, moringa, aloe vera and much more….

I have also created various oils to address several hair problems such as hair loss, dry hair, dandruff, lack of tone and volume, damaged colored hair…

All my products are ‘certified’ and their main benefit is to help restore the natural balance of skin and hair.

Q: What do you mean by ‘certified’ products ?
A: All my products are tested and certified by the Mauritius Standards Bureau. They are 100% natural and contain no chemical product. This is a very comforting aspect for my customers who know they can rely and use my products.

Q: And this is also an excellent way to stand out from competition!
Who can buy your products?
A: Indeed. Marianne Savonette products are efficient and affordable. I have various customers : from individuals who care about body and skin health, others who opt for 100% natural products exclusively, some who have skin problems such as eczema, acne, dry or oily skin etc... to companies (wellness spa…) and others that like to treat their employees (Rewards, EOY Gifts…). My database consists of teenagers, students, professionals - women and men from all group age.

Q: Where is your business located?
A: Well, I started my activities at home. Few years later, as I wanted to grow my business, I started to display my products in local fairs and entrepreneur markets to increase my visibility and connect with more people to match their needs with innovative products.

I am now present at different outlets: at Galeries Evershine, Rose-Hill, at the Market of Quatre Bornes and at the University of Mauritius.

Moreover, I regularly attend markets in all regions of Mauritius namely at Caudan, Anbalaba Baie du Cap, Port Louis, and shopping malls.

Of course, I can make other arrangements for delivery, pickup…

Q: What inspired your entrepreneurial venture?
A: My daughter. She was having acne problems and she tried many treatments without success. I was helpless. One day while I was praying to find new ways to help her, I thought of making turmeric for her and I could see the change on her face quite rapidly. That moment marked the beginning of my entrepreneurial journey. Thanks to the support of my family, I could develop my business activities.

Q: Nicole, what is your most satisfying entrepreneur moment so far?
A: I started with one turmeric soap and today I am proud to say I have created more than 30 varieties. My customers are very happy with the results and this is the most satisfying factor that keeps me motivated to achieve more.

Q: What do you find the hardest in being an Entrepreneur?
A: There are so many competitors, so you need to work harder and propose unique products. While an outlet would have facilitated the sale of my products, the rental fee is very expensive, this limits the exposure of my products. That is why I decided to move around Mauritius through the fairs and events to get people to know my products.

Q: Any advice you would like to give to startups?
A: NEVER LOSE HOPE! Avoid negative people, don’t get distracted with people opinions about you, believe in yourself, in your own potential, keep showing and work hard, things will definitely work out.

Q: Today, what’s your definition of success?
A: To Love what I Do and Enjoy the way I do it + seeing my customers happy and confident about themselves.
