Today, as the saying goes, Norfolk Island has lost another pine tree.

With heavy hearts, we learned that Ruth McCoy has spread her wings and peacefully left this life. Ruth made her mark on our community, touching and enriching the lives of so many people through her kindness, compassion, and the genuine care she showed to everyone she met.

She was a beautiful soul and a remarkable woman—strong in every sense of the word: physically, mentally, and emotionally. Her love and devotion to her family were unwavering, and they were always at the centre of her world.

Many will remember Ruth for her years as everyone’s favourite nurse at the hospital. She was always there with a comforting smile, a reassuring presence, and a caring heart. She looked after her patients with genuine old-fashioned kindness, compassion, and love, making each person feel seen, valued, and cared for.

I took this photo of Ruthie in 2024 when she came into my salon. She always loved having her hair washed and would often say, “I could stay here all day.” Those little moments and conversations were so special.

I’ll miss your warm presence and our little chats, but most of all, I’ll miss you.

Rest peacefully, Aunty Ruth. Thank you for the love, kindness, and care you shared so generously with us all. You will never be forgotten. ❤️
