Please Stop Using Your Teeth to Remove Your Nails!

Your nails are not bottle caps, and your teeth are not nail tools! One of the worst things you can do to your natural nails is bite, peel, pick, or forcefully pull off your gel, acrylic, or press-on nails. While it may seem like a quick and easy way to remove them, it can cause serious damage to your natural nails.

When you force your nails off, you're not just removing the product, you may also be removing layers of your natural nail along with it. This can leave your nails thinner, weaker, more sensitive, and prone to breakage. Over time, this habit can make it difficult for your nails to grow strong and healthy, and it may even increase the risk of infections if the nail plate becomes damaged.

Instead of using your teeth or pulling them off by force, please follow the proper soak-off process or visit your nail technician for a safe and professional removal. A few extra minutes of patience can save your nails from weeks or even months of damage.

Please, have mercy on your nails! Stop forcing them off and treat them with the care they deserve. If it's time for a removal, let your nail technician handle it the right way. Healthy nails are beautiful nails, and taking shortcuts today can lead to regrets tomorrow.

A few days ago, I made a post asking nail technicians what they would do in this situation after several unsuccessful attempts. Let's break down some of the common reasons why French tips may shrink, wrinkle, or start pulling away immediately after application.

Possible Causes of French Tip Shrinkage

1. Applying Too Much Gel Polish

One of the most common causes is using too much product when creating your French tips. Thick layers of gel polish often struggle to cure properly, which can lead to shrinking, wrinkling, or lifting.

2. Low-Quality or Incompatible Products

Not all gel polishes perform the same way. Sometimes the issue isn't your technique but the product itself. Poor-quality products or products that don't work well together can cause curing problems.

3. Improper Hand Placement in the UV/LED Lamp

If your client doesn't place their hand correctly inside the lamp, some areas may not receive enough light exposure. Constantly pulling the hand in and out during curing can also prevent the gel from curing properly.

4. Faulty or Weak UV/LED Lamp

Your lamp may be losing its effectiveness, damaged, or not providing the correct curing power. In some cases, counterfeit or low-quality lamps can also lead to curing issues.

5. Highly Pigmented Gel Colors

Certain colors, especially black, white, yellow, and other highly pigmented shades, can be more difficult to cure. Because they're densely pigmented, the light has a harder time penetrating through the product. These colors require thinner application and a little extra patience.

How to Fix It

If you notice this happening while creating French tips, avoid completing all the nails before curing.

Instead:

1: Apply the French tip on one nail and cure it.

2: Move to the next nail and cure.

3: Repeat the process until all nails are completed.

This method helps prevent the gel from shrinking or moving before it has a chance to fully cure.

Remember, great nail work isn't just about technique, it's also about understanding your products, maintaining your equipment, and knowing how different colors behave during curing.

Have you experienced this issue before? What was the cause in your case? Share your experience below. ๐Ÿ‘‡
