If you’ve ever enjoyed a steaming bowl of ogbono soup, you already know about its rich flavor and signature silky texture. But did you know this pantry staple is actually a nutrient-dense superfood?

Derived from the seeds of the wild African bush mango (Irvingia gabonensis), ogbono is far more than just a soup thickener. It’s packed with goodness that nourishes your body from the inside out:

MYTH vs FACT: DO YOU REALLY LOSE MOST BODY HEAT THROUGH YOUR HEAD?

You may have heard this since childhood:
“Wear a hat, or you'll lose most of your body heat through your head!”

Sounds believable—but it's a myth.

✅ THE FACT

Your head isn't a special heat-loss outlet.

When you're cold, you can lose heat from any exposed part of your body. If your head is the only uncovered part, then naturally, you'll lose a lot of heat from there.

That old “40–50% of body heat escapes through the head” claim came from poorly interpreted military research where people were covered everywhere except the head.

The real lesson?

When the weather is cold, cover the parts of your body that are exposed.

🧢 Wear a hat if your head is cold.
🧤 Protect your hands.
🧣 Cover your neck.
🧥 Keep your torso warm.
🧦 Don't forget your feet.

Don't rely on a hat alone while leaving the rest of your body exposed.

Simple rule: The more skin you leave exposed to cold air, the more opportunity your body has to lose heat.

🔥 NOW LET'S TEST YOUR KNOWLEDGE!

Before reading this post, did you believe you lost most of your body heat through your head?

👇 Comment “I BELIEVED IT” or “I KNEW IT!”

And SHARE this post with someone who still insists, “All your body heat escapes through your head!” 😂🧢

Ingredient Focus: Bell Peppers

Adding bell peppers to your meals does far more than make your dish look good—it loads it up with real nutrition. These crisp, colorful veggies are absolute powerhouse sources of Vitamin C, with the red and yellow varieties boasting some of the highest concentrations you can find in the produce aisle.

Why You Should Keep Them in Your Kitchen:

1 Immune & Iron Support: Loaded with Vitamin C, they bolster your natural defenses and help your body draw more iron out of plant-based meals.

2 Vision Defense: Packed with carotenoids and key antioxidants, they play a big role in protecting your long-term eye health.

3 Cell-Protecting Antioxidants: Their bright, vibrant colors mean they're overflowing with active plant compounds that fight oxidative stress.

4 Low Calorie, High Crunch: They deliver huge flavor, texture, and vitamins without adding heavy calories to your daily intake.

5 Super Versatile: Chop them raw for a quick snack, toss them into fresh salads, or throw them into stir-fries, egg dishes, curries, and stews.

Quick Kitchen Tip: Don't limit yourself to just one variety! Red, yellow, orange, and green peppers each carry their own distinct mix of beneficial nutrients, so mixing them up gives you the best of all worlds.

PSC is a condition that causes inflammation and scarring of the bile ducts. The tricky part? Early PSC may cause few or no obvious symptoms.

When symptoms do appear, they may include:

1 Yellowing of the eyes or skin
2 Persistent or unexplained tiredness
3 Itchy skin without an obvious cause
4 Discomfort or pain in the upper right side of the abdomen
5 Episodes of fever or chills
6 Reduced appetite or unexplained weight loss

These symptoms can happen with many other conditions, so having one of them does not automatically mean you have PSC.

But persistent or unexplained symptoms deserve medical attention. A doctor may recommend blood tests and imaging of the bile ducts when PSC is suspected.

👉 Don't ignore symptoms that keep coming back. Early medical evaluation can make a difference.

Are You Making This Bladder Mistake?
We've all been there: stuck in a meeting, caught in traffic, or binge-watching a show when the urge strikes, and we tell ourselves, "I'll just wait a bit longer."

While delaying a trip to the bathroom once in a while won't do much harm, turning it into a daily habit is a different story. Frequently ignoring your body's signals can overstretch your bladder muscles, strain the nerve connections, and make it much harder for your bladder to empty properly over time.

Signs Your Bladder Might Be Struggling:

1 Hesitation or trouble starting to p*e

2 A slow, weak, or stopping-and-starting flow

3 That annoying feeling that you haven't fully emptied your bladder

4 Sudden, urgent cravings to go or needing to run to the restroom constantly

5 Discomfort or pressure when you finally do go

The Golden Rule: When your body gives you the signal, listen to it. Avoid making a habit of holding it in longer than necessary.

When to Get Checked Out:
If you're dealing with ongoing changes in how you urinate, pain, cloudy or bloody urine, fever, or real trouble passing urine, don't brush it off. Get it checked by a doctor or healthcare provider.

Be honest: Are you guilty of ignoring nature’s call just because you're busy? Drop a YES or GUILTY in the comments!

Pass this post along to a friend who always postpones their bathroom breaks! ❤️

Bell’s Palsy: Sudden Facial Weakness

Imagine looking in the mirror and realizing one side of your face isn't reacting, your smile is lopsided, or your eye simply won't blink. That is the reality of Bell’s palsy, a condition triggered by inflammation of the facial nerve that leads to temporary weakness or paralysis on one side of your face.

Rule Out a Stroke First

Never assume sudden facial drooping is just Bell’s palsy. Facial sagging can also indicate a stroke. If the weakness comes with slurred sp*ech, confusion, loss of balance, or numbness in the arms or legs, call emergency services right away.

Common Symptoms

Signs usually develop fast, peaking within a few hours to a couple of days:

1 Partial or complete paralysis on one side of the face
2 Inability to close one eye or smile evenly
3 Unintentional drooling and difficulty chewing
4 Altered sense of taste
5 Dryness or excessive tearing in the affected eye
6 A dull ache behind or around the ear

Timing Matters
If you notice these changes, see a doctor without delay. Medical evidence shows that steroid treatments are far more effective when started within 72 hours of the first symptom. Doctors occasionally prescribe antiviral drugs alongside steroids, but antivirals alone aren't enough.

Eye Protection is Essential
If your eye can't blink or close entirely, it quickly dries out and risks serious corneal damage. Using artificial tears during the day, lubricating ointments at night, or taping the eyelid shut while sleeping helps keep the eye safe while the nerve heals.

The Path to Recovery
The vast majority of people bounce back completely. While the healing process can take anywhere from a few weeks to several months, most make a full recovery, even if a few experience minor lasting effects.

If you or someone around you experiences sudden facial weakness, stay calm, skip the self-diagnosis, and get evaluated by a medical professional immediately.

🌿 LOCAL SPOTLIGHT: NEEM LEAVES

If you grew up around neem trees, chances are you’ve seen these leaves used in one traditional way or another. 🌿

Neem has been part of traditional practices in many parts of Africa and Asia for generations. Its leaves contain natural plant compounds that have been studied for their antioxidant and antimicrobial activity.

Traditionally, neem leaves have been used:

✅ In some traditional skin-care practices
✅ In preparations used for their antimicrobial properties
✅ As part of traditional herbal practices
✅ In teas and other preparations in some communities

But here’s an important point: traditional use is not the same as proven medical treatment. Neem should not be presented as a cure for infections, diseases, or as a replacement for prescribed medicine.

🌿 How have you seen neem used in your community?

Tea?
Bathing?
Skin care?
Or something completely different?

Share what you’ve seen or learned about neem in the comments. 👇🏾
Let’s learn from our traditional knowledge while also separating tradition from proven medical claims. ❤️

✅ Good source of plant protein
✅ Rich in dietary fiber
✅ Naturally gluten-free
