Many parents worry about getting everything right.

But children aren’t looking for perfection. They’re looking for love, connection, and someone who keeps showing up for them. 🌿

Here are 5 things that matter more than perfect parenting:

1️⃣ Being emotionally available.
Your child doesn’t need you to have all the answers. They need to know you’ll listen, comfort them, and be there when they need you.

2️⃣ Repairing after difficult moments.
Every parent loses patience sometimes. What matters is coming back, apologizing when needed, and rebuilding connection.

3️⃣ Being present.
A few minutes of undivided attention can mean more than hours spent together while distracted.

4️⃣ Creating a safe space for emotions.
When children know they can express joy, sadness, frustration, or fear without being dismissed, they develop emotional confidence.

5️⃣ Loving them consistently.
Children flourish when they know your love isn’t based on perfect behaviour or achievements. Feeling accepted gives them the confidence to grow and explore.

There is no such thing as a perfect parent.

But there are loving, patient, and present parents, and that’s what children remember most. 🤍

Children don’t need a perfect childhood to feel secure.

What they need most is the consistent reassurance that they are loved, protected, and accepted. It’s the little things you do every day that help build that sense of security. 🌿

Here are 5 everyday ways to help your child feel secure:

1️⃣ Be consistent when you can.
Simple routines like bedtime stories, family meals, or goodbye hugs help children know what to expect. Predictability helps them feel safe.

2️⃣ Respond to their emotions with empathy.
When your child is upset, let them know their feelings matter. Listening before correcting teaches them that home is a safe place to express themselves.

3️⃣ Keep your promises.
If you say you’ll be there, do your best to follow through. Consistency builds trust, and trust is the foundation of emotional security.

4️⃣ Spend uninterrupted time together.
Even 10 to 15 minutes of focused attention without phones or distractions can make a child feel deeply valued and connected.

5️⃣ Remind them they’re loved every day.
Through your words, hugs, encouragement, and presence, let your child know they are loved for who they are, not just for what they do.

Children grow with confidence when they know they have someone they can always come back to.

Security isn’t built in grand gestures. It’s built in the ordinary moments, repeated with love. 🤍

The environment you give birth in can have a big impact on how you feel during labour.

While every birth is different, creating a space that feels calm, safe, and supportive can help you feel more relaxed and confident. 🌿

Here are 5 ways to create a calm birth environment:

1️⃣ Reduce unnecessary distractions.
Dim the lights if possible, lower the noise, and keep the room as peaceful as you can. A calm environment can help you feel more settled and focused.

2️⃣ Surround yourself with supportive people.
Choose people who encourage you, respect your wishes, and help you feel safe. The right support can make a meaningful difference during labour.

3️⃣ Make the space feel familiar.
Bring items that help you relax, such as your favourite playlist, a pillow from home, comforting scents (if appropriate), or positive affirmations. Small touches can make an unfamiliar space feel more comforting.

4️⃣ Stay free to move.
If your labour and medical situation allow, changing positions, walking, swaying, or using a birth ball can help you feel more comfortable and in control.

5️⃣ Focus on your breathing, not the clock.
Instead of watching every minute pass, bring your attention back to your breathing and take each contraction one at a time. Staying present can help labour feel more manageable.

A calm birth environment doesn’t have to be perfect.

It’s about creating a space where you feel respected, supported, and able to focus on bringing your baby into the world with confidence. 🤍

It’s easy to think babies need lots of gadgets and entertainment.

But in the first weeks and months of life, what they need most can’t be bought in a toy store. 🌿

Here are 5 things babies need before they need toys:

1️⃣ Loving, responsive care.
Every cuddle, feed, and comforting touch helps your baby feel safe and secure. Responding to their needs builds trust and lays the foundation for healthy emotional development.

2️⃣ Human connection.
Your face, your voice, and your touch are some of your baby’s favourite “activities.” Talking, smiling, singing, and making eye contact all help support their social and brain development.

3️⃣ Plenty of sleep.
Sleep is one of the most important parts of a baby’s growth. While newborn sleep can be unpredictable, those hours of rest are when their brain and body are doing incredible work.

4️⃣ Opportunities to explore.
Simple experiences like tummy time, looking around the room, listening to different sounds, or feeling different textures help babies begin learning about the world around them.

5️⃣ A calm and nurturing environment.
Babies don’t need constant stimulation. They benefit from a space where they feel safe, comforted, and loved, giving them the confidence to grow and develop at their own pace.

The best gifts you can give your baby aren’t always found on a shelf.

Your love, your presence, and your responsiveness are some of the most valuable things they’ll ever receive. 🤍

It’s easy to feel like you need to have everything figured out before your baby is born.

The perfect nursery. The perfect birth plan. The perfect routine.

But the truth is, parenthood isn’t about getting everything perfect. It’s about being willing to learn, adapt, and grow. 🌿

Here are 5 things you don’t have to get perfect before your baby arrives:

1️⃣ Your birth plan.
It’s helpful to know your preferences, but birth can be unpredictable. A flexible mindset is often more valuable than a perfect plan.

2️⃣ The nursery.
Your baby won’t remember the paint colour or matching décor. What matters most is that they have a safe place to sleep and loving people to care for them.

3️⃣ Breastfeeding.
It’s okay if you don’t know exactly what you’re doing yet. Breastfeeding is a skill that you and your baby learn together, and support is available if you need it.

4️⃣ Your parenting knowledge.
You don’t need to read every book or have every answer before your baby arrives. You’ll continue learning with every stage of your child’s growth.

5️⃣ Yourself.
You don’t have to become the “perfect parent” before meeting your baby. Your love, presence, and willingness to keep learning are far more important than perfection.

Preparing for a baby isn’t about checking every box.

It’s about creating a safe, loving environment and trusting that you’ll continue to grow into your role as a parent, one day at a time. 🤍

🌷*Babyproofing Your Home*🌷

Once your baby becomes mobile, it’s amazing how quickly they discover EVERYTHING you thought was safely out of reach! 😵‍💫

Suddenly, sharp corners become fascinating, power outlets are irresistible, the stairs look like an exciting adventure… and apparently, no drawer is safe! 😅

Our next *Midwife Live Talk: Babyproofing Your Home* will be a *Mom-to-Mom conversation*. Anna, mum of two, will share her tried-and-tested babyproofing strategies, what has actually worked for her, and some of the products she’s found useful.

Whether your baby is *not mobile yet, crawling, pulling up or already cruising*, we’ll cover practical things you can do to make your home safer - including some hazards you may not have thought about yet.

And because every parent has their own little tricks, *please bring your tips and experiences too!* We’d love this to be an open conversation where we can learn from each other. 💖
