AN URGENT APPEAL TO AREWA’S LEADERSHI
_( Before the Last Light Goes Out)
( Development Agenda for Northern Nigeria DANN )
To:
The Northern Governors Forum
The Arewa Consultative Forum
The Sultan of Sokoto and the Council of Emirs
The Christian Association of Nigeria – Northern Region
The Council of Ulamas, Traditional Rulers, and Political Leaders of the 19 Northern States .
Assalamu Alaikum Warahmatullahi Wabarakatuh. Good day, my Fathers, Mothers, and Leaders.
I write not as a politician, not as an agitator, but as a son who watches his mother’s house burn while the elders debate inside.
The South West saw the fire early. In 2013, six Yoruba states put aside party, ego, and petty differences and created the *Development Agenda for Western Nigeria – DAWN*. Today, they plan together, invest together, negotiate together, and speak with one voice. They are not waiting for Abuja. They are building their own table.
My question to you, my leaders, is simple: *Where is our DAWN? Where is the Development Agenda for Northern Nigeria?*
1. We Sit on New Oil, Yet We Beg
Allah SWT has blessed Arewa with what the world now calls “the new oil”: lithium, gold, gypsum, limestone, tin, iron ore, and the richest agricultural belt in West Africa.
While the South West uses cocoa, cashew, and intellectual capital to build Odu’a Investment Company, we sell our lithium raw for peanuts.
While they process and export, we dig and export poverty.
While they train their youth in engineering and agri-business, our youth trek to Lagos to hawk pure water, or worse, become tools for violence.
This is not destiny. This is choice. And we are choosing wrong.
2. The Implications of Our Reluctance
If we continue on this path, history will judge us harshly:
1. *Economic Enslavement*: By 2035, other regions will process our minerals, sell them back to us, and call us “dependents”. We will have land but no wealth, people but no jobs.
2. *Security Collapse*: Unemployment is the ox
