Biafra: How Journalists Were Punished for Covering Uwazuruike in Onitsha
ONITSHA - A deliberate and calculated campaign of calumny against the founder of the Movement for the Actualization of the Sovereign State of Biafra (MASSOB), Chief Ralph Uwazuruike, has reportedly been extended to journalists and major media establishments across the region.
Chief Chris Mocha, the Director of Information for the Biafra Independence Movement (BIM-MASSOB), made this disclosure in a statement shared via his page. According to Mocha, the censorship reached a level where press releases concerning the MASSOB founder were systematically suppressed and denied publication.
He noted that the most disturbing escalation of this media blackout occurred on September 13, 2017, when Chief Uwazuruike and his members stormed Onitsha, Anambra State, to celebrate Biafra Independence Day. Following the event, two courageous journalists who defied the unwritten embargo and published the story were abruptly sanctioned by the Onitsha chapel of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ).
Recalling the events of that day, Mocha stated that about 13 journalists representing various print and electronic media houses had stationed themselves at the Lagos Park flyover in Onitsha, eager to get a glimpse of Chief Uwazuruike and his massive convoy of members.
"The chairman of the journalists waited at the location until I joined the press corps from the Bridge Head axis and officially handed over the event's press release to them," Mocha explained.
He further asserted that despite heavy media intimidation and the weaponization of propaganda, Ndigbo are finally beginning to understand the naked truth.
Mocha concluded that the contrast is now clear between Chief Uwazuruike’s genuine, structural efforts and the alternative agenda led by Nnamdi Kanu, adding that lies, deceit, and hostile propaganda have ultimately done far more harm than good to the collective interests of Ndigbo.

‘The World is Silent’: EU Lawmakers Demand Action on Nigerian Christian Persecution
STRASBOURG - The European Parliament today held a heated debate on the ongoing persecution of Christians in Nigeria, exposing sharp ideological divides among lawmakers over the root causes of the violence and the global response to it.
The session opened with remarks from MEP Miriam Lexmann, a longtime advocate for religious freedom, who highlighted the severe security threats facing vulnerable populations. “Across the country, Christian communities face repeated attacks from Fulani militants, Boko Haram, and other organized groups,” Lexmann stated, setting a somber tone for the day's proceedings.
Italian MEP Silvia Sardone delivered an emotional address, condemning what she described as international apathy toward the crisis. “Silence. The world is silent. While in Nigeria a massacre has taken place,” Sardone told the chamber. “These are not numbers. These are entire families being extermined.”
Further emphasizing the gravity of the situation, MEP Sebastian Tyne of the European Conservatives and Reformists (ECR) group urged European institutions to take a definitive stance. “This House simply cannot look away. It must find its backbone and defend the Christian world globally,” Tyne said. In his remarks, Tyne contextualized the ongoing violence within the framework of Sharia law implementation in certain regions and directly blamed "Christianophobia" for the lack of global outrage.
However, the debate took a starkly different turn when Left-wing and Green lawmakers took the floor. Catarina Vieira, representing the Greens, drew criticism from conservative colleagues for attributing the crisis primarily to environmental and political factors rather than religious extremism.
Vieira pointed to climate change as a driving force behind the conflict and placed blame on former US President Donald Trump for past USAID funding cuts. She argued that those financial reductions were responsible for widespread school closures across Nigeria—a claim that opponents quickly dismissed, pointing out that schools in the region have primarily been forced to close due to waves of jihadist-backed mass kidnappings targeting students.
The polarized debate underscores the growing frustration among religious freedom watchdogs over the European Union's struggle to find a unified approach to addressing ethno-religious violence in West Africa.
