It is common to feel profoundly tired or to experience headaches during your recovery.

Your brain is working under immense strain, exerting a massive amount of mental energy to communicate with a damaged nerve.

Additionally, the constant physical tension on the unaffected side of your face can cause radiating pain that triggers headaches. This fatigue is a clear signal from your body that your nervous system requires rest.

During the later stages of recovery, emotional and physical exertion that puts a lot of effort on facial muscles on the affected side, can cause micro-contractions that further cause pains on your face, physical fatigue and headaches.

Be gentle to yourself, and give yourself plenty of rest and possibilities to relax.

Eye care is the most urgent priority during the acute phase of facial paralysis.

Protecting your vision requires consistent, gentle care every single day. While your nerve is working to recover, these simple protective steps will ensure your eye remains safe and comfortable.

For specific drops and patches or moisture chambers, speak with your doctor or an eye doctor, to assist you in choosing the option that best suits your body and your needs.

Many people search for specific supplements to achieve a faster recovery.

Vitamins B1, B6, and especially B12 are vital for the maintenance of the myelin sheath, which is the protective insulation covering your facial nerve.

If you have a verified deficiency, taking these supplements can help replenish the resources your body needs to heal. If you want to consider taking supplements, ask your doctor for a lab analysis to confirm if your levels of these vitamins are deficient first.

However, supplements cannot force the nerve to regenerate faster than the laws of nature allow, and they cannot remove long-term complications like tightness or synkinesis.

Your facial muscles are not suffering from a lack of strength; they are suffering from a temporary lack of signal.

Forcing them to contract with external electrical currents bypasses the natural healing process and can create deep neurological complications.

Your face needs a gentle, delicate approach that respects the natural flow of highly fine-tuned signals of facial expressions.

Our gentle, non-invasive method focuses on restoring natural harmony without any harsh currents. For more information, visit our website or contact our specialists via [email protected]

When facial paralysis first occurs, the natural instinct is to try to force your face to move by practicing intense grimaces or repetitive expressions.

At Crystal Touch, we strongly advise against this.

In the early stages, active voluntary movements place excessive stress on a damaged nerve.

Forcing your muscles to move can facilitate the formation of synkinesis and lead to painful contractures in the future.

Instead, the most beneficial action you can take is to practice conscious relaxation and allow your nerve the quiet environment it requires to heal.

Your facial muscles are not damaged during facial palsy. They will not atrophy and they will be able to conduct movements again, once the facial nerve heals and reconnects with the muscles.

Your facial muscles are not the concern.

The facial nerve's damage is what causes the paralysis. Excessive and forced movements will not help it. The nerve conducts electrical signals from the brain to the muscles. Like any electrical wire, if it or its insulation is damaged, it simply cannot conduct the electrical signals. No matter how much effort you put, if the electrical impulses cannot pass from the brain to the muscles, no movement will occur.

Instead, relax. If you want to understand in more detail why relaxation is better than effort, read through the Bell's Palsy Knowledge Base on our website.
