Meet Kat .fairweather — ocean hunter, freediver, and owner of in Takapuna, Auckland.

She’s featured in Mermaid Diaries, a series capturing the personal stories, rituals, and moments of women who feel most at home near the sea 🌊

We asked Kat about her perfect dive day and what made her recent trip to Bali so special.

So what does a perfect dive day look like for Kat?

“Great company, beautiful conditions, exciting exploration, and blissfully chill dives — and if it’s a spearo mission, a few tasty treats to finish it off.”

And what made her time in Amed so special?

For Kat, it was the people.

“I had the chance to connect with some amazing freedivers from around the world. It’s just an incredible community — I had a ton of fun, and came home with profound insights and soul-nurturing inspiration.”

The water temperature was by far the biggest difference, Kat told us.

“31 degrees! I wasn’t wearing a wetsuit at all — just a lycra suit to keep the stingers off.”

And of course, the coral reefs and tropical fish were a pretty incredible change from what she’s used to in New Zealand 🐠

After 10 days of diving, Kat also put her Mermaid’s Secret products to good use along the way 🌊💜

Our bottle is made from 100% recycled plastic, and we designed the label to peel off easily so it’s easier to reuse and easier to recycle.

I’ve never really shared this story before.

I moved from South Korea to New Zealand in my 20s and completely fell in love with the ocean.

Diving, swimming, boating... if there was a chance to be in the water, I was there.

I was never the girl with perfect skin, and growing up with sensitive skin and eczema, I kept my beauty routine as simple as possible.

Yet even a wild ocean lover like me started noticing the changes in my skin and hair after long days in the ocean.

And it bothered me more than I expected.

I loved the ocean too much to give it up, but I couldn‘t find products that truly helped my skin and hair recover afterwards.

That journey eventually became Mermaid’s Secret.
