Trying to stop the flood control hearing today, only raises more questions. Transparency, accountability, and the truth should never be delayed.
The changes made in the Senate the day before the flood control hearing make it seem like they're afraid of what might come out during the session.
Today, media literacy is extremely important. It’s no longer enough to say, “I saw it online.” The better question is, “Was it verified?”
My view is that public trust in media has weakened because many people feel reporting is either too politically influenced, too sensationalized, or too focused on narratives instead of balanced facts. That skepticism is understandable.
At the same time, governments, corporations, political groups, influencers, and even ordinary users all shape information online now, not just traditional media. Because of that, people can end up inside “information bubbles” where they mostly see content that confirms what they already believe.
I don’t think the solution is to blindly trust media, but I also don’t think the solution is to distrust everything. Both extremes can make people easier to manipulate.
The healthiest approach is:
stay skeptical without becoming cynical
verify major claims before believing them
follow sources with different perspectives
pay attention to evidence and transparency
recognize when content is designed mainly to provoke anger or fear
An informed society depends on people being willing to question information carefully including information they already agree with.
