on your birthday anymore.

I can’t check on you
the way I used to.

I can’t send you random messages,
ask how your day went,
or tell you about the little things
I know you’d care about.

I can’t keep doing
the things I used to do for you
when we were still us.

It’s strange
having to unlearn the ways
I used to love you.

But I think that’s part of letting go,

accepting that some things
