Scientists have discovered a bacterial enzyme that can build a DNA strand without copying DNA or RNA — using amino acids in a protein to guide the sequence instead.

Researchers studying an antiviral defense system called DRT3 in Escherichia coli uncovered a remarkable form of DNA synthesis unlike the textbook mechanisms scientists have known for decades.

DRT3 contains two reverse-transcriptase enzymes. The first, Drt3a, behaves more conventionally: it reads a repeating sequence in a noncoding RNA molecule and produces a DNA strand containing alternating G and T bases.

But the second enzyme, Drt3b, does something extraordinary.

It produces the complementary DNA strand without any DNA or RNA template. Instead, specific amino acids positioned near the enzyme's active site act like molecular guides, forcing the enzyme to alternate between the DNA bases C and A. The result is a repeating poly(AC) DNA strand. Cryo-electron microscopy revealed the mechanism at roughly 2.6-angstrom resolution.

Importantly, this does not overturn the central dogma that genetic information generally flows from DNA to RNA to protein. What it does reveal is a previously unknown way that sequence-specific DNA can be synthesized: information encoded in the structure of a protein can help determine which nucleotides are added.

The system appears to be part of a bacterial defense against bacteriophages, viruses that infect bacteria. Follow-up research has further shown how RNA-templated and protein-templated DNA synthesis can work together within DRT3 during antiviral defense.

It is a striking reminder that even something as fundamental as how cells make DNA still contains mechanisms science is only beginning to uncover.

🕌 SUJOOD — WHERE THE BODY BOWS AND THE HEART SUBMITS
Sujood (prostration) is one of the most profound moments of Ṣalāh.
When a believer places his forehead upon the ground, he is not merely changing his physical posture. He is expressing humility, submission, and closeness to Allah.
Allah says:
وَاسْجُدْ وَاقْتَرِبْ
“Prostrate and draw near.”
Qur’an 96:19
🧠 CALMNESS & FOCUS
Research examining Muslim prayer has observed changes in brain activity and measures of the autonomic nervous system during Ṣalāh. Some findings are consistent with relaxation and increased parasympathetic activity.
🫀 HEART & BODY
The different positions of Ṣalāh produce natural changes in heart rate and blood pressure. Some studies have found that the prostration position is associated with lower heart rate during prayer.
🦴 MOVEMENT & FLEXIBILITY
Ṣalāh involves repeated, gentle movements of the spine, shoulders, hips, knees, ankles, and other parts of the body. Regular prayer therefore combines worship with physical movement, balance, and mobility.
🌙 BUT SUJOOD IS MORE THAN PHYSIOLOGY
Science can study what happens to the body and brain during prayer.
But it cannot measure the essence of ʿubūdiyyah—the humility and submission of a servant before his Creator.
Sujood was not prescribed as exercise.
It was prescribed as worship.
Any physical benefit is secondary to the purpose for which Allah commanded us to pray.
The forehead touches the earth,
but the heart rises toward Allah.
May Allah make our sujood a source of peace, humility, forgiveness, and closeness to Him. Āmīn.

🌙 The Night Before Jumu'ah: Increase Your Ṣalāh Upon the Prophet ﷺ

As the blessed night of Jumu'ah begins, one of the greatest acts of worship is to send abundant ṣalāh and salām upon our beloved Prophet Muhammad ﷺ.

Allah says in the Qur'an:

"Indeed, Allah and His angels send blessings upon the Prophet. O you who believe, send blessings and peace upon him in abundance."

(Surah Al-Ahzab 33:56)

The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said:

"Increase your blessings upon me on Friday, for your blessings are presented to me."

(Reported by Abu Dawud; authenticated by a number of scholars including Al-Albani.)

He ﷺ also said:

"The person closest to me on the Day of Resurrection will be the one who sent the most blessings upon me."

(Jami' at-Tirmidhi)

Take a few moments tonight to fill your tongue with this beautiful supplication:

اللَّهُمَّ صَلِّ عَلَىٰ مُحَمَّدٍ وَعَلَىٰ آلِ مُحَمَّدٍ

Allahumma ṣalli ʿalā Muḥammadin wa ʿalā āli Muḥammad.

Meaning: O Allah, send Your blessings upon Muhammad and upon the family of Muhammad.

Every ṣalāh upon the Prophet ﷺ is a source of immense reward. The Prophet ﷺ said:

"Whoever sends one blessing upon me, Allah will send ten blessings upon him."

(Sahih Muslim)

Let this blessed night be filled with: • Abundant ṣalāh upon the Prophet ﷺ. • Recitation of the Qur'an. • Sincere duʿāʾ. • Seeking Allah's forgiveness. • Preparing your heart for the blessed day of Jumu'ah.

May Allah fill our hearts with love for His Messenger ﷺ, enable us to remember him often, and gather us in his blessed company in Jannat al-Firdaws. Āmīn.

Why Did Allah Name His Prophet "Yahya" (John)?

One of the most beautiful stories in the Qur'an is that of Prophet Yahya (John) عليه السلام.

He was born as a miracle after years of heartfelt du'a by his father, Prophet Zakariyya عليه السلام, who had reached old age while his wife was unable to have children. Yet he never lost hope in the mercy of Allah.

He prayed:

"My Lord, do not leave me childless, though You are the best of inheritors." (Qur'an 21:89)

Allah answered his prayer with glad tidings unlike any other:

"O Zakariyya, We give you good news of a boy whose name will be Yahya. We have not given this name to anyone before him." (Qur'an 19:7)

The name Yahya was chosen by Allah Himself. Many scholars explained that this name was unique at that time, and it reflects the honor and special status Allah granted to His noble Prophet.

Allah further praised Yahya عليه السلام, saying:

"We gave him wisdom while he was still a child, and compassion from Us, and purity. He was God-conscious, dutiful to his parents, and was neither arrogant nor disobedient." (Qur'an 19:12–14)

Lessons from the Story of Prophet Yahya (AS)

• Never lose hope in your du'a. Allah hears every sincere prayer, even if the answer comes after many years.

• Allah's power is beyond all limitations. When He wills something, no obstacle can prevent it.

• Honor your parents. Kindness to parents is among the qualities of Allah's prophets and the righteous.

• Righteous character is true beauty. Taqwa, purity, humility, and good manners are far more valuable than worldly status.

If your dreams seem delayed, do not despair. Allah may be preparing something greater than you can imagine—just as He answered the prayer of Zakariyya عليه السلام and blessed him with Yahya عليه السلام.

May Allah strengthen our trust in Him, accept our du'as, bless us with righteous families, and fill our hearts with certainty in His perfect wisdom. Āmīn.

Chastity Is an Act of Worship

In a world that tells people they must satisfy every desire, Islam teaches something different: self-control is a form of worship.

If an unmarried Muslim man remains chaste by the permission of Allah—avoiding zina, po*******hy, ma********on, and all unlawful sexual acts—then he is striving upon a path that Allah loves.

The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said:

«"O young people! Whoever among you is able to marry, let him marry, for it helps lower the gaze and guard chastity. Whoever is unable to marry should fast, for fasting diminishes desire."

— Sahih al-Bukhari (5066), Sahih Muslim (1400)»

Notice what the Prophet ﷺ advised for those who cannot marry:

• Fast regularly.
• Lower the gaze.
• Guard chastity.
• Be patient.

He did not instruct them to seek unlawful ways to satisfy their desires.

What about semen?

Islam does not require a person to ej*****te. The human body naturally manages this. Many men experience nocturnal emissions (wet dreams), and if they occur, one simply performs ghusl before praying. If they do not occur for a long time, Islam does not teach that a person must ma******te or engage in any sexual act merely to release semen.

Allah says:

«"And those who guard their private parts, except from their spouses... then whoever seeks beyond that—they are the transgressors."

— Surah Al-Mu'minun (23:5–7)»

If an unmarried Muslim patiently protects his chastity for years out of fear of Allah, this is a virtue, not a deficiency. Such patience is beloved to Allah, and every struggle endured for His sake is never lost.

"A Qattāt will not enter Paradise."
— Prophet Muhammad ﷺ (Sahih al-Bukhari & Sahih Muslim)

A Qattāt (قَتَّات) is a person who carries people's private words to others with the intention of creating conflict, hatred, or division.

This is closely related to Namīmah (النَّمِيمَة)—tale-bearing that spreads enmity between people.

For example:
• Person A says something privately about Person B.
• The Qattāt goes to Person B and says, "Do you know what A said about you?"—not to reconcile, but to create anger and break the relationship.

Islam strongly condemns this behavior because it destroys trust, families, friendships, and communities.

The Prophet ﷺ said:

"A Qattāt will not enter Paradise."

The scholars explained that this is a severe warning about the gravity of the sin. It does not mean that every Muslim who commits it is permanently excluded from Paradise. If a person sincerely repents and Allah forgives them, Allah's mercy is greater than every sin.

Guard your tongue. Protect people's honor. Be a source of peace—not division.

May Allah purify our hearts and tongues, protect us from gossip and tale-bearing, and make us among those who reconcile between people. Āmīn.

Khalid bin Walid, known as the "Sword of Allah," epitomized the valor and dedication expected of a warrior. His famous quote,

"When I am in the battlefield, I love it more than any wedding night with the most beautiful woman,"

reflects his unwavering commitment to his duty over personal desires. This sentiment teaches us that fulfilling one's duty and embracing responsibility is far more rewarding than succumbing to fleeting pleasures or comfort.

True fulfillment and honor come from dedication to a greater cause, demonstrating that the essence of manhood lies in prioritizing duty over personal indulgence. Khalid's life and words inspire us to find purpose and dignity in our obligations, leading to a more meaningful and respected existence.

The Hand That Shielded the Prophet ﷺ

During the Battle of Uhud (625 CE), when many Muslims were thrown into confusion by a sudden attack, stood firmly beside the Messenger of Allah ﷺ.

He placed himself between the Prophet ﷺ and the enemy, shielding him with his own body. Arrows struck him, swords wounded him, and he suffered numerous injuries while defending the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. His hand was severely injured as he protected the Prophet ﷺ, leaving it permanently affected.

Witnessing his unmatched courage, the Prophet ﷺ praised Talha's sacrifice. He became known as one of the greatest heroes of Uhud and was among the Ten Companions Promised Paradise (Al-'Asharah Al-Mubashsharah).

His story reminds us that true love for the Prophet ﷺ is proven through sacrifice, loyalty, and unwavering faith—not merely by words.

May Allah be pleased with Talha ibn Ubayd Allah and grant us hearts filled with the same sincerity, courage, and steadfastness. Āmīn.

"Among the believers are men who have been true to their covenant with Allah..."
(Qur'an 33:23)

One Enemy. One Surah. One Eternal Warning.

Among the many opponents of the prophets mentioned in history, Abu Lahab stands unique: he is the only enemy of Islam condemned by name in the Qur'an.

His real name was ʿAbd al-ʿUzzā, but he became known as Abu Lahab ("Father of Flame"). He was the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ's own uncle, yet he openly mocked and rejected the message of Islam.

When the Prophet ﷺ called his people to worship Allah alone from Mount Ṣafā, Abu Lahab shouted:

"Tabban laka!"
"May you perish!"

In response, Allah revealed an entire chapter:

"Perish the hands of Abu Lahab, and perish he."
(Surah Al-Masad 111:1)

This was not merely a condemnation—it was a prophecy. While Abu Lahab was still alive, Allah declared that neither his wealth nor his status would save him. Years later, exactly as the Qur'an foretold, he died in disgrace, and everything he relied upon failed him.

His story is a timeless reminder:

Wealth cannot save you. Power cannot save you. Family ties cannot save you. Only faith, sincerity, and obedience to Allah will benefit a person on the Day of Judgment.

"Neither his wealth nor what he earned will benefit him."
(Surah Al-Masad 111:2)

May Allah protect our hearts from arrogance, grant us steadfast faith, and make us among those who accept the truth with humility. Āmīn.

Speak Good, or Remain Silent.

Many of our deepest regrets come from words spoken in anger, haste, or emotion. But silence, when chosen with wisdom, protects the heart, preserves relationships, and earns the pleasure of Allah.

The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said:

"Whoever believes in Allah and the Last Day should speak good or remain silent."
— Sahih al-Bukhari 6018 | Sahih Muslim 47

Silence is not weakness. It is self-control. It is wisdom. It is a sign of strong faith when it prevents harm and unnecessary speech.

Before you speak, ask yourself:
• Is it true?
• Is it beneficial?
• Will it please Allah?

Choose words that bring goodness. When they cannot, choose silence.

May Allah grant us wisdom in our speech, sincerity in our hearts, and silence that earns His pleasure. Āmīn.
