π± Normal Delivery vs C-Section in Cats | Complete Guide for Pet Owners in Pakistan π΅π°
Today we will discuss an important topic every cat owner should understand π
π’ When NORMAL DELIVERY is possible:
β’ Cat is active, calm and not in severe pain
β’ Strong contractions with kittens coming out every 30β60 minutes
β’ No excessive bleeding
β’ No foul smell discharge
β’ Kittens are coming out one by one smoothly
β’ Mother is licking and caring for kittens
π This is a healthy natural delivery (queening) and usually does NOT need surgery.
βΈ»
π΄ When C-SECTION is NEEDED (EMERGENCY π¨):
β’ Straining for more than 1β2 hours but no kitten delivered
β’ Weak or no contractions
β’ Kitten stuck in birth canal
β’ Green/black discharge but no kitten
β’ Severe pain, weakness or collapse
β’ Dead kitten suspected inside uterus
β’ Flat-faced breeds (Persian cats) having difficulty
π This condition is called Dystocia and requires immediate veterinary intervention (C-section) to save both mother & kittens.
π¨ NG Tube Placement in Critically Ill Patients β Assisted Feeding Saves Lives πΎ
When a patient is too weak, anorexic, or critically ill to eat on their own, every hour without nutrition worsens recovery.
In such cases, Nasogastric (NG) tube placement becomes a life-saving intervention.
πΉ What is an NG Tube?
A soft feeding tube passed through the nose into the stomach to provide nutrition directly.
πΉ When do we use it?
βοΈ Severe weakness or anorexia
βοΈ FPV, FIP, kidney/liver disease
βοΈ Post-surgery recovery
βοΈ Neurological conditions
βοΈ Any patient unable to eat voluntarily
πΉ Why is it important?
β
Prevents starvation
β
Maintains energy & immunity
β
Supports faster recovery
β
Allows precise, controlled feeding
πΉ In critical care, nutrition = treatment
Delaying feeding can be as dangerous as delaying medication.
At Aliyan Vets, we ensure proper NG tube placement with care, precision, and monitoring to give every patient a fighting chance β€οΈ

How to Tell if a Female Dog is Clear After Delivering Puppies πΆπΎ
After a dog gives birth, many pet owners worry whether all puppies and placentas have been delivered or if something is still left inside the uterus. Retained material can cause serious infections, so monitoring the mother after delivery is very important.
Here are a few signs that the mother dog has completed delivery safely:
πΉ No more strong contractions β If the dog has stopped pushing and appears calm for several hours, labor is usually finished.
πΉ Placenta count matches puppies β Normally each puppy has one placenta. Make sure the number of placentas equals the number of puppies.
πΉ Normal vaginal discharge β A small amount of dark green or reddish discharge for a few days can be normal after whelping.
πΉ Mother is relaxed and caring for puppies β A comfortable mother feeding and cleaning her puppies is a good sign labor is over.
πΉ Normal appetite and temperature β If the dog is eating, drinking, and her temperature stays around 101β102.5Β°F (38.3β39.2Β°C), she is likely stable.
β οΈ Warning signs that something may still be in the uterus:
β’ Continuous strong contractions without a puppy
β’ Foul-smelling discharge
β’ Fever, weakness, or loss of appetite
β’ Abdominal pain or swelling
If you notice these signs, visit a veterinarian immediately. Sometimes an ultrasound or X-ray is needed to confirm that the uterus is empty and the mother dog is safe.
Healthy mothers mean healthy puppies β€οΈ
Doing veterinary work forcefully is often more dangerous for animals than anesthesia.
In a veterinary clinic, patience and proper handling are essential. When animals are restrained or treated forcefully without calming them first, the stress and struggle can cause serious injuries, worsen existing conditions, and increase the risk of accidents for both the animal and the veterinary team.
Anesthesia, when used correctly by trained veterinarians, is a controlled and monitored process designed to keep the animal safe, pain-free, and calm during procedures. In many cases, it is far safer and more humane than forcing an awake animal through a painful or frightening treatment.
Remember: Compassion, proper restraint, and safe anesthesia protocols protect the welfare of animals.
If a dog licks mosquito spray, it can lead to poisoning and serious health problems, so quick action is important.
What to do if your dog licks mosquito spray:
1οΈβ£ Remove the dog from the source immediately to prevent further exposure.
2οΈβ£ Rinse the mouth gently with clean water if possible. Do not force water if the dog is struggling.
3οΈβ£ Do NOT induce vomiting unless advised by a veterinarian.
4οΈβ£ Watch for signs of poisoning such as drooling, vomiting, tremors, weakness, or difficulty breathing.
5οΈβ£ Take the dog to the nearest veterinary clinic immediately for proper treatment.
Mosquito sprays contain chemicals that are toxic for pets, even in small amounts. Quick veterinary care can save your petβs life.
πΎ If you ever face such an emergency, contact a qualified veterinarian immediately.
