I have always had a particular affection for simplicity. Not simplicity as an aesthetic rule, but as a way of looking at things. I like faces that still look like themselves, photographs that don’t feel overly constructed, conversations that don’t need to impress anyone, and all those little details that become beautiful precisely because nobody tried too hard to make them so.

Perhaps this is also why my relationship with beauty has changed so much over the years. I don’t believe there is one correct way to look after ourselves, to age, or even to feel beautiful. We are allowed to change things. We are allowed to leave them exactly as they are. We can enjoy treatments, make-up, bare skin, a little more of something or considerably less of it. What matters to me is that our choices still belong to us, rather than to whatever the world has decided we should be worried about this week.

That philosophy inevitably found its way into my work with skin, but also into the way I live and the things I find beautiful. I am much more interested in preserving individuality than chasing an idea of perfection. Perfection has never been particularly interesting to me anyway.

And then there are the rare people who somehow understand how you see the world and manage to give it back to you through their own eyes.

These photo was taken by my beautiful friend Hai | Fotógrafa , and perhaps that is why it feels so much like me. There is something very special about being photographed by someone who knows you beyond the person standing in front of the camera. She has an extraordinary eye, but more than that, she has a way of seeing people that is entirely her own.

How lucky I am to have a little piece of my world captured through hers.

At some point, you stop asking whether you’re too much.

Too ambitious. Too opinionated. Too selective. Too confident about what you want.

You simply become the woman you had in mind all along.

Some people will understand her. Others won’t.

Neither changes who she is.

Becoming her was always the point.

You don’t need to remind people that you have appointments available every time you create content.

They already know you offer treatments.

What they don’t necessarily know is why they should trust you with their skin.

That comes from showing how you think: why you recommend one treatment and not another, what you notice during a consultation, what you’ve learned from working with different clients, and the standards behind the decisions you make.

Your content can do more than announce what you sell. It can make the way you work visible.

And when people understand the thinking behind your work, “book now” becomes far less necessary.

Your availability isn’t your positioning. Your perspective is.

I see professionals setting prices based on what other people nearby are charging, rather than what it actually costs to deliver their work well.

That’s a dangerous little habit.

Your price has to account for far more than the hour in the treatment room. There’s education, professional products, overhead, equipment, the client experience and the ability to keep investing in your practice.

And yes, there should be profit left at the end. Otherwise we’re essentially volunteering with very expensive skincare. 🤭

For clients, the same principle applies in reverse: two facials with the same duration are not automatically comparable.

Sometimes the difference in price is simply the difference in what sits behind the treatment.
