Half-Day Leave… But Am I Really on Leave?

Took a half-day childcare leave today to bring my little one for her ENT check-up. As a mom, I was worried about her frequent nosebleeds, but thankfully, the doctor assured us it’s just mild inflammation due to flu/mucus—something common in young kids. Such a relief!

But here’s the reality… Even on leave, I wasn’t really on leave.
✔️ Guiding my new colleague over messages.
✔️ Attending a last-minute meeting my boss scheduled.
✔️ Trying to juggle work while focusing on my child’s health.

And this isn’t the first time. How many of us working moms have had to take leave, only to still be "on call"? It’s exhausting.

This is exactly why I started looking for something that gave me real flexibility.
A way to be there for my child without work still pulling me back in.

Yesterday, I was grateful for the chance to leave work early to pick up my daughter from school. Instead of our usual routine of taking food home, I decided to make it a different experience.

We stopped by a coffeeshop, and I asked her what she wanted to eat. She chose chicken rice, and we sat down to enjoy our meal together. It was just 30 minutes, but it felt like such a meaningful bonding session outside of our usual home environment.

Moments like these remind me of what truly matters—creating special memories and being present for my daughter. It’s also a strong reminder of why I’m building an opportunity for a better future: to have more time for what’s important and to live life on my terms.

I’m looking forward to the day when my biggest challenge isn’t how to find time, but how to spend it wisely. That day is coming, and I’m working hard for it.
