Area-based research and innovation in cross-border health care group
On 22 July 2026, Assistant Professor Dr. Phitsanuruk Kanthawee, Head of the Cross-Border Health Care Group at Mae Fah Luang University (MFU), and the team are conducting field data collection for the "Improving Health, Digital, and Innovation Literacy Levels among the Older Population in Thailand and Lao PDR" project. The research team is conducting face-to-face interviews with older adults to collect high-quality data that will inform evidence-based strategies for promoting healthy ageing, digital inclusion, and innovation literacy.
On 14 July 2026 Assistant Professor Dr. Phitsanuruk Kanthawee, Head of the Cross-Border Health Care Group at Mae Fah Luang University (MFU), and the team prepared for the quantitative data collection phase of the "Improving Health, Digital, and Innovation Literacy Levels among the Older Population in Thailand and Lao PDR" project. The research team reviewed the survey instruments, standardized data collection procedures, and discussed quality assurance measures to ensure the accuracy, reliability, and consistency of data across study sites. This phase is essential for generating robust evidence to support healthy ageing and digital inclusion among older adults in both countries. The project is generously supported by ACAI.

Assistant Professor Dr. Phitsanuruk Kanthawee, Head of the Cross-Border Health Care Group at Mae Fah Luang University (MFU), and the team joined the Project kick-off meeting for the qualitative data collection phase of the "Improving Health, Digital, and Innovation Literacy Levels among the Older Population in Thailand and Lao PDR" project. The meeting brought together the research team and project partners to discuss the study protocol, interview guidelines, ethical considerations, and data collection procedures, ensuring a consistent and high-quality research approach across both countries. This project is generously supported by ACAI.

On Friday, 3 July 2026, representatives from partner institutions across Thailand, Nigeria, South Africa, Zimbabwe, Uganda, and Tanzania convened for the inaugural online meeting of the Africa–Asia Research Consortium via Zoom.
The meeting provided an opportunity for consortium members to introduce their institutions, discuss the overall project concept, explore potential work packages and country-specific contributions, and identify suitable international funding opportunities to support future collaborative research. Participants also exchanged ideas on strengthening long-term partnerships between African and Asian institutions through interdisciplinary research and capacity building.
The meeting concluded with a shared commitment to advancing collaborative research initiatives and preparing competitive proposals for international funding, marking an important first step toward establishing a sustainable Africa–Asia research network.

On June 23, 2026 Assistant Professor Dr. Phitsanuruk Kanthawee, Head of the Cross-Border Health Care Group at Mae Fah Luang University (MFU) joint emergency response drill at the Thailand–Lao Friendship Bridge No. 1, connecting Nong Khai, Thailand, and Vientiane, Lao PDR.
The exercise simulated a radiological leakage incident at the international border checkpoint to test emergency preparedness, interagency coordination, radiation monitoring, public safety measures, and cross-border communication procedures.
The drill involved personnel from public health, customs, immigration, disaster management, and emergency response agencies from both countries. The activity aimed to strengthen preparedness and ensure a rapid, coordinated response to potential radiological emergencies at one of the region’s key border crossings.

Air pollution remains one of the greatest environmental health threats facing our communities today. To tackle this challenge, Dr. Siriwan Kantisin and Lecturer Chaloemphan Kaewkanta from the Cross-Border Health Care Group have initiated a collaborative dialogue with Miss Siwaporn Rungsiyanon, Deputy Director General of the Asia Center for Air Pollution Research ACAP Japan, and Assistant Professor Dr. Nion Sirimongkonlertkun, the IC-SDG Flagship Project Development team.
This emerging partnership seeks to advance research on Air Pollution Adaptation and Health Resilience, connecting science, policy, and community action to develop innovative solutions for vulnerable populations and climate-sensitive regions.
Together, we are turning research into action for cleaner air and healthier futures.
