Come celebrate our culture in a friendly way as we host our Carnival Creative Day.

Trinidad and Tobago Carnival originated during the period of slavery when the slaves, banned from attending their masters’ fancy balls and parties, would improvise by staging their own costumed event in their quarters. After Emancipation, these former slaves challenged the plantation owners to publicly host their own Carnival celebration. It was their own celebration of self-expression and creativity.

Like other Roman Catholic countries involved in Carnival, these celebrations take place on the Monday and Tuesday directly before Ash Wednesday, usually marked in February or March. Activities on the two days take the form of street parades by bands of costumed masqueraders.

At SRPS we believe in educating our students about the diversity of our culture and want them to understand the significance of Carnival from its origin and what it meant for our enslaved ancestors.

We use this season to celebrate the diverse creativity of our students.

Today, on World Cancer Day, the Salve Regina Preparatory community stands in solidarity with all those affected by cancer worldwide.
