Even though some of y’all think I’m perfect (fun fact: “Mz. Perfect” was actually my nickname in high school) 🫠 I’m always reminding y’all that I am NOT.
If you look closely at the pictures I post, you’ll see the little bumps, lint, imperfections… all the things that sometimes make me not even want to post a set. But at the end of the day, I’m human and I’m just out here doing my best. 🖤

So here’s a little unedited camera roll dump. No AI. No fixing every tiny flaw. No spending forever editing each picture. Just the nails exactly how they came off my table. 📸
Because apparently being a nail tech, receptionist, photographer, content creator, social media manager, bookkeeper, inventory manager, therapist 😂 AND small business owner wasn’t enough hats to wear.

WHEN DID AI BECOME THE NAIL TECH?
I’ve noticed more and more nail work creeping onto my feed that’s been “slightly edited” with AI. Except slightly edited now seems to mean perfecting cuticles, smoothing skin, straightening lines of light, changing clothing and even the shape.

I think it’s hiding a much bigger issue. We’re removing the need to actually get BETTER!
Why practise your application if AI can perfect it afterwards? Why BOTHER learning photography, lighting and angles when AI can do it for you? Let’s face it, this industry doesn’t exactly need any more encouragement to take shortcuts!!!

Its completely devaluing the techs who HAVE put the work in. The ones who invest in education, practise, improve their photography and take 56 photos of the same bloody hand just to get THE ONE.

I actually think there’s another danger…you start to hate your own REAL work. If every photo you take gets AI perfected before you post it, suddenly normal skin texture, a slightly imperfect cuticle or a line that isn’t perfect starts looking “bad” to you. You’re literally training yourself to compare your own work to a version of it that never existed. Crazy!

Then there’s the client. They’re looking at your page thinking THAT is the standard they’re booking. They’re saving your AI-edited photo as inspo and sitting in your chair expecting you to recreate it or worse…..bringing it to ME as inspo.
Bit awkward when even you didn’t technically create it the first time.

Edit your lighting. Adjust your colours. Remove the annoying bit of fluff from the towel. But when we start editing the actual nail work, that’s crossing a professional line.

Your portfolio should represent what YOU can physically produce. AI is an amazing tool. Use it. Use it correctly! Just don’t let it become the better nail tech.
