Every loc journey is unique, and sometimes a fresh approach is needed to achieve the desired foundation.
This young client came to LOC & Ki Studio for a starter loc consultation after his initial installation didnât quite align with the results his family envisioned.
After assessing his hair and discussing the desired outcome, we decided to restart his loc journey using a different technique and approach to sectioning.
â¨Ki TIP: The foundation of your starter locs matters! Sectioning, sizing, hair density, texture, and installation technique all play a role in how your locs develop over time.
There isnât just one way to start locs. The goal is to choose a method that supports your hair and your long-term loc goals.

âŚif youâre going to keep them covered under a wig 24/7.
âŚif youâre not going to follow your locticianâs recommendations.
âŚif youâre not prepared to keep your maintenance appointments.
âŚif youâre going to retwist them every time you see a little new growth.
âŚif youâre going to overload them with heavy oils, gels, waxes, and buildup.
âŚif you refuse to properly cleanse your scalp and locs.
âŚif youâre going to compare your loc journey to somebody elseâs.
âŚif youâre going to constantly manipulate them because youâre impatient with the process.
âŚif you expect them to look âperfectâ at every stage.
âŚif youâre not prepared for your locs to change, mature, shrink, frizz, and develop their own personality.
âŚif youâre going to ignore thinning, breakage, or scalp issues until they become a bigger problem.
âŚif you want locsâŚbut donât actually want to care for locs. đ
Locs are low maintenance â not no maintenance.
