Every head of hair, color history and client goal/purpose differs.. but yes. This client just wants lower maintenance color schedule, she doesn’t want to go full gray yet, but wants option to later on and doesn’t mind seeing some now, so my approach here is to do very heavy, ultra fine sections of low lights with her current chocolate color. ✏️What makes gray blending different than just a usual lowlight session is (1) the anount of time (2) the experience and skill level for placement (3) the attention to detail and amount of foils of very fine baby sections, hence the additionsl time. Especially if you have very long, or very thick hair.
I know “gray blending” is the buzz word of the year… but let me explain why it’s better suited for most women (and men) 👉🏻 Old Way: Root touch up every 4-6 weeks, hard line of regrowth showing. Opaque color.
New Way: Blending low lights, high lights or both (every head of hair is different) for a more natural looking grow out with beautiful dimension, no hard lines and a schedule of 8-10wks instead. And yes, the $ investment is a little more, simply because time is money for hairdressers, if it takes longer with more skill to do, its going to cost a little more. Anything that is custom created specifically to you will. 🩷
Here’s the story: (1) huge section regrowth with natural gray/white color, (2) she’s willing to cut shorter to help bridge the gap, (3) she’s wanting to go natural gray, (so why did previous stylist bleach it? 🤷🏼♀️ ) the bleach seriously compromised her texture. (4) She’s aware her texture is now fuzzy and a mess and willing to continue with treatments. She also loves her white patch and didn’t want it touched. That was A LOT to factor in! 😥 But I got her to a more sustainable coloring where she can just let it grow, be natural, and let it be. Using the Scwarzkopff silver white series in Silver, Dove Gray and Slate Gray.
