Healwell
Touch. Teach. Advocate. We touch people affected by illness. We teach massage therapists how to provide care safely and effectively.
We advocate for access to that care and for a broader role for massage therapists in healthcare. We all do better when we all do better. Effective, human-centered care is far from standard. Healwell partnerships provide care that prioritizes personal connection, quality of life and outcomes that are valuable from both the patient and provider perspective. We know that this kind of care does not ex

Research That Matters
What does the research tell us about the role of massage and massage therapy in supporting the mental health and well-being of people living with serious and potentially life-limiting physical illness?
At the 2026 American Massage Therapy Association - AMTA National Convention, the Massage Therapy Foundation shared our research poster:
“A Qualitative Scoping Review of Massage and Massage Therapy on the Mental Health and Well-being of Individuals Living with a Serious and Potentially Life-limiting Physical Illness.”
Created by Sarah Fogarty, PhD; Cal Cates; and Ronna Moore, this work explores an important question at the intersection of massage therapy, serious illness, and whole-person care.
At Healwell, we believe research matters because it helps us better understand how, why, and when massage therapy can support people navigating serious illness—and strengthens the case for thoughtful, evidence-informed massage therapy in healthcare settings.
We’re proud to see this important work represented at AMTA National and to share it with our community.

A Heartfelt Honor
We’re so proud to celebrate Cal Cates, recipient of the Massage Therapy Foundation Humanitarian Award, presented at the 2026 AMTA National Convention. ❤️
Cal’s work has always centered on something bigger than massage therapy itself: compassion, connection, dignity, and making sure people feel seen and cared for—especially during some of life’s most difficult moments.
This award recognizes the heart and humanity Cal brings to everything they do, and we couldn’t be happier to see that work honored.
Congratulations, Cal! We are grateful for your leadership, your compassion, and the countless ways you continue to make our community—and the world—better.
