A hair transplant is not an overnight transformation. The result continues developing for months after surgery.

In the first 1–2 weeks, the transplanted area begins healing as redness and small crusts gradually resolve.

Then comes the phase that surprises many patients: shedding.

Between roughly weeks 2–6, many transplanted hairs may fall out. This is expected and does not mean the transplant failed. The follicles remain beneath the skin as they transition into a new growth cycle.

Why doesn’t FUE leave the traditional linear hair transplant scar?

It comes down to how the donor hair is harvested.

With traditional strip harvesting, or FUT, a narrow strip of scalp is surgically removed from the donor area—along the back of the head. The incision is then closed, leaving a linear scar within the donor zone.

With FUE (Follicular Unit Extraction), there is no strip of scalp removed. Instead, individual follicular units are extracted one at a time from throughout the donor area and then transplanted into the areas where additional density is needed.

Because there is no long incision to close, FUE avoids the traditional linear donor scar associated with strip harvesting.

This can be especially important for patients who prefer to wear their hair shorter or simply want to avoid a linear scar at the back of the scalp.
