Informed choice.
Research and regular medical care can happen in the same hospital, with the same type of doctors, and sometimes even around the same condition.
But they are not always the same thing.
Before you sign a research consent form, ask:
“What parts of this are research, and what parts are my regular medical care?”
That question matters.
Save this before your next research visit and follow for Part 3 of Before You Sign.
Before you sign a research consent form, you deserve to understand what you are agreeing to.
A consent form should explain the study, the risks, the possible benefits, your rights, and who to contact with questions.
And yes, you are allowed to ask someone to explain it in plain English.
Save this before your next research visit and follow for Part 2 of Before You Sign.
Research participation should never be about pressure.
It should be about information, understanding, and choice.
Yes, research studies can come with risks.
But the right study, for the right person, may also provide closer monitoring, access to new options, and a chance to help shape the future of healthcare.
For too long, many of our communities have been left out of the room, left out of the data, and left out of the decisions that shape treatment.
That changes when we become informed, invited, and involved.
Comment RESEARCH if you believe our communities should be part of the research conversation.

Thinking about joining a weight loss study? 🤔
Before you say yes, make sure you know exactly what you’re signing up for.
Not all studies are the same, and asking the right questions can help you make an informed decision about your health, time, and expectations.
In this carousel, I’m sharing 4 important questions to ask before participating in a weight loss research study, including:
✅ What the study is trying to learn
✅ How success will be measured
✅ Potential risks and side effects
✅ What participation looks like during and after the study
Research participation should be a choice you feel confident about, not one you feel pressured into.
Save this post for future reference and share it with someone considering a clinical trial or weight loss study.
