This is genuinely getting so out of hand in our industry, and it concerns me to my core.

In Texas, permanent makeup falls under tattoo regulations, but there is no state-required PMU education program or minimum number of permanent makeup training hours required for an individual artist before they can perform these services. The studio itself is required to be licensed and follow state health and safety regulations. (Texas Health Services)

And THAT is the problem.

We now have an influx of people who took one quick training, barely trained at all, or simply decided they could pick up a machine or blade and start working on PEOPLE’S FACES.

You are implanting pigment into someone’s skin. This is not a cute little side hustle so you can make some extra fu***ng money and go to Miami with the girls. You can permanently alter someone’s face, and the lack of education and respect for this craft is going to destroy our industry.

PLEASE do your research before booking a permanent makeup artist.

Do not just look at their fresh work. Look at their long-term healed results. What do those brows look like one, two, three+ years later?

If your old microblading has turned extremely dark, blue, gray, or oversaturated, piling more pigment on top is not always the answer. At that point, you may need removal before another artist can safely give you the brows you actually want.

The amount of people I am now referring out for laser removal before I can even touch their brows is ASTRONOMICAL.

Permanent makeup is still tattooing. It is your FACE. Please research your artist, their experience, their training, and most importantly, their healed work.

✨ POWDER BROWS 101 ✨

Powder brows are a form of semi-permanent makeup that creates soft, defined, symmetrical brows using a tattoo machine and pigment.

🤎 What they look like:
Think filled-in brows, but better. Soft and airy in the front with more definition through the body and tail. They can be customized from super natural to more bold and defined.

🖊️ How it works:
Instead of creating individual hair strokes, tiny pixels of pigment are gently implanted into the skin to create a soft, shaded effect.

⏰ How long they last:
Typically 1–3 years, depending on your skin type, lifestyle, skincare and sun exposure. Yearly refreshes help keep them looking their best.

🩹 The healing process:
Fresh brows will look darker, warmer and bolder immediately after your appointment. As they heal, they soften significantly and settle into a much more natural shade.

When you’re looking for a powder brow artist, or really any permanent makeup artist, one of the most important things to look for is their healed work, especially their long-term healed Work.
Anything can look beautiful fresh off the needle. But what does that work look like months or years later in your client’s skin?
Use this video as an example of what you should be looking for. Fresh powder brows will always look bolder, warmer, darker and more vibrant immediately after the appointment.
Once healed, you’re left with that soft, airy, fluffy finish that looks like it belongs on your face.

Sorry I’ve been MIA! I took a 3 week solo trip in Cali to gather myself. As much as I want to dive into the emotional side of things (trust me I will) I want to dive into how my powder brows made me feel so put together and made my life SO. EASY.
