17 YEARS LATER, FAMILY STILL SEARCHING FOR SHEMIKA COSEY

Shemika Keyanta Cosey was only 16 years old when she disappeared from Berkeley, Missouri, in December 2008. More than 17 years later, her family is still searching for answers, and Shemika remains listed as missing by the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children.

Shemika was spending the night with relatives when she vanished. Authorities list her missing date as December 30, 2008, although some records differ slightly on the exact date. She was last known to be in the Berkeley area and has not been seen or heard from since. She may also go by the nickname “Mika.”

The case received renewed attention in 2026. In March, Berkeley police and search teams investigated a new lead and searched property in the 6100 block of Jefferson Avenue. Material discovered during that search was tested, but authorities later determined it was animal remains, not human remains, leaving Shemika's disappearance unresolved.

The National Center for Missing & Exploited Children has released an age-progressed image showing what Shemika may look like as an adult. Authorities have said she may still be in the local area.

Anyone with information about Shemika Cosey's disappearance or current whereabouts is urged to contact the Berkeley Police Department at 314-524-3311 or the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children at 1-800-THE-LOST (1-800-843-5678).

After more than 17 years, Shemika's family is still waiting for the answer to one question: Where is Mika?
