People who know me personally can probably count on one hand how many times they’ve seen me in shorts. There’s a reason for that.

I’ve dealt with eczema and extremely dry, sensitive skin since I was young. At its worst, my skin cracked into open wounds. Water burned. Some nights the itching and pain kept me awake.

Over the years, Shower Icing helped make my flare-ups less frequent, and I followed it with Body Butter for relief. As my skin changed with age, I began studying barrier protection more deeply and adding more hydration and barrier support to my own Body Pudding.

I added ingredients like ceramides, hyaluronic acid, niacinamide, panthenol and squalane, along with the botanicals behind Southern Roots™.

And it worked sooooo well for me. My wounds began to heal. 🥹

That journey helped power Southern Roots™, and I brought that same formulation philosophy into Body Pudding: purposeful ingredients, deep hydration and barrier support, formulated for what my skin actually needs.

Every dark mark you see on my legs was once a much larger cracked, open sore. So when I look at my legs now, scars and all, I’m happy.

It took a lot for me to be comfortable enough to show you this. But I realized someone may need this story more than I need to hide it.

And when I tell someone about my products and they say, “No thank you, I have sensitive skin,” there’s always a little part of me thinking, what do you think my skin is made of, Brillo? 😂

But how would they know if I didn’t tell them?

My skin has always been part of the Indulgence story. I just wasn’t ready to tell you all of it.

This is my grandmother, Rosella, Rosie to everyone who knew her. 🩵

Everyone wanted Rosie’s sweet potato pies. She learned how to make them as a child in Tar Heel, North Carolina, and later she taught me how to bake them and so many other delicacies.

During that same time, my godmother, who was also originally from North Carolina, taught me to use what was in the kitchen and pantry to make my own skin and hair care products.

So, after my Grandmom and I spent hours in her kitchen cooking, baking and creating memories, she would gladly give me whatever leftovers I asked for. I’d take those ingredients home and conjure up the best skin and hair care routines I could for myself and my cousins and friends.

Southern Roots™ is a celebration of those traditions and of the women who passed them on to me. 🩵
