Bryant is growing. But I think we need to stop using the word “growth” like every kind of growth is automatically good.
- More rooftops mean more people using our roads.
- More development means more demand on water and sewer.
- More traffic means intersections and streets have to keep up.
- More families means greater expectations for parks, public safety and city services.
Growth has a cost.
The goal should be making sure it also creates value. I want Bryant to grow. But I want us to grow intentionally, with infrastructure, economic development and quality of life moving forward together.
The question isn’t whether Bryant grows. The question is whether we’re prepared for it.

Benton is growing. The harder question is: how should we grow?
Some of the most consequential decisions that come before City Council aren’t flashy. They’re decisions about land use, rezoning and development — decisions that can affect neighborhoods for decades.
We’ve seen that firsthand this year.
Benton residents have weighed in on proposals involving a new private school, multifamily housing and other rezoning requests across the city.
These aren’t always simple yes-or-no questions. Growth can bring new housing, businesses and investment. It can also raise important questions about traffic, infrastructure, utilities, surrounding neighborhoods and whether a proposed development fits the long-term vision for an area.
Those are exactly the kinds of decisions your City Council is elected to consider.
And I’m interested in how you would make them.
My community survey includes questions about growth and development—including how you would approach some of the same types of decisions that have recently come before the City Council.
If you haven’t taken it yet, I’d really like to hear from you.
