4️⃣0️⃣ started last night. 🥂 good food, my husband across the table, a hotel key in my purse…and a little time to think about what four decades taught me.

0–10: before i knew what discernment was, i definitely knew a vibe. being loved well matters more than you understand when you’re little. you may not have the words for how people make you feel yet, but you’ll remember.

10–20: the right friendships can know several versions of you and make room for all of them.

20–30: oh, i lived. ambition is useful, but it makes a terrible compass.

30–40: me: here’s the plan. God: noted. lol. you can make the list, pray over it, work your tail off for it…and God still gets to change the list. obedience has saved me from more than getting my own way ever could.

i’m entering this decade with plans, of course. i am still me. but my grip on them is a little different. i just don’t confuse them with promises anymore.

i think i’m going to like it here. 🤍

cheers to white chocolate macadamia cookies, spa days, a cold hotel room and a fluffy robe, loving and being loved back, mutual thirst, pictures that get better with age, patients turned friends, friends turned family, making the memory even when staying home would’ve been easier, room service, my people…and this beautiful life. 🥂

🪞this picture is me at any given moment ✨ doing one thing, thinking about three others, and being a completely different version of myself five minutes later. 💁🏽‍♀️ i’ve gotten very comfortable being hard to summarize.

there’s injector me. ceo me. wife me. mama me. the one talking business numbers. the one deciding what everybody is eating. the one who wants to discuss Scripture. the one playing old r&b too loud. the one who can be very serious about something at 2:00 and laughing until i can’t breathe at 2:07.

for a long time i think i assumed adulthood eventually turned you into one very settled, easily explained person.

definitely not. 😮‍💨

i don’t want to shrink all the different parts of me into something easier to package. they all get to come.

and listennn…i think somewhere along the way we started acting like being grateful means you’re supposed to stop wanting things. not the case.

i am deeply grateful for the life Yahuah has given me, and i love that there are still things ahead to be curious about. some things i want more of, some things less of, and probably a few things i don’t even know to ask Him for yet.

but i also want to stay close enough to Yah that if what He has for me looks nothing like what i pictured, i can still recognize it as good.

so 40 is getting all of me too…the grounded part, the curious part, and yes, the part that still has a list.

grateful? very.

content? in the ways that matter most.

finished? not unless Yahuah tells me to sit down somewhere. 😌

still a lot going on over here. that part made it to 40 too. 🤭

here’s something i wish more people understood about aesthetic medicine: two patients can receive the same product, amount and anatomical area and have very different experiences. 🫆

because the syringe is only one variable.

your immune system matters.
your inflammatory state matters.
your hormones matter.
your sleep, stress and recovery matter.
recent illness matters.
recent medical or dental procedures matter.
previous aesthetic treatments matter.
and yes, filler you had years ago may still matter too.

we’re not treating an isolated lip, cheek or jawline. we’re treating living tissue inside a human being whose biology is constantly changing.

and biology does not care that two treatment plans look identical on paper. 🧬

that doesn’t mean every variable is a contraindication. it means it belongs in the conversation.

ask better questions.
take a better history.
understand tissue behavior.
recognize patterns.
know when something is expected, when it deserves attention, and when the smartest decision is to wait. 🔎

after 14+ years of injecting, i’ve learned that some of the most important clinical decisions happen before i ever pick up the syringe.

and this is exactly why i teach the way i do.

i don’t want injectors memorizing where to put a needle and calling that mastery.

i want you to understand why.
why this tissue behaved differently.
why this patient swelled more.
why filler migrated here.
why anatomy changes your technique.
why a beautiful result on one patient can’t simply be duplicated on another.

Your brain makes decisions before you realize you’ve made them.

Long before you notice someone’s eye color, smile, or lips, your visual system has already decided where to look first.

It’s called visual salience.

It’s the tendency for your attention to be pulled toward the highest-contrast part of what you’re looking at. Your brain is constantly scanning for edges. Light. Shadow. Movement. Whatever creates the strongest contrast usually wins.

For many people, that’s the under-eye.

Not because anything is “wrong.” Because shadows naturally create contrast.

So when patients tell me, “I just look tired.”

or

“I don’t know what it is…”

…they’re often describing something their brain noticed long before they had the words for it.

☝🏽 Here’s where aesthetics gets really interesting. The shadow isn’t always the problem. Sometimes it’s just the messenger. The real cause might be volume loss higher in the face, changes in skin quality, or simply the way light is traveling across the contours of the face.

That’s why this treatment wasn’t just under-eye filler.

1️⃣ We supported the mid-face.
2️⃣ We improved skin quality.
3️⃣ Then we let light do the rest.

Nothing dramatic happened. We simply changed where your attention went.

Medicine teaches differential diagnosis. Business should too.

When a patient says, “I don’t feel well,” you don’t immediately choose a treatment. You collect data.
History.
Vitals.
Labs.
Imaging.

Business deserves the same discipline. Low profit isn’t a diagnosis. It’s a symptom.

High revenue isn’t a diagnosis. It’s a symptom.

Poor retention.
Weak cash runway.
Low provider utilization.
Debt that operations can’t support.
Those are diagnostic clues.

Treating every struggling business with “more marketing” is the operational equivalent of prescribing antibiotics before knowing whether the illness is bacterial.

🫦 I can usually tell how someone injects just by looking at their finished lips.

The hard part isn’t making lips bigger.

The hard part is making people forget they’re looking at filler. That’s the standard I hold myself to.

Not because “natural” is always the goal. Some of my patients want Mega Plump, and I love creating those lips. 💧

But even a big lip should have somewhere for your eye to rest. The corners shouldn’t steal the attention. The Cupid’s bow shouldn’t disappear. The profile shouldn’t lose its balance.

Volume is only impressive when it still looks balanced. ⚖️ That’s why I can look at a lip and tell where every fraction of a syringe belongs before I ever pick one up.

Every millimeter has a purpose.
