Kōzōn face oils are made simply with the highest quality ingredients and the power of activated oxygen. Kōzōn: Beauty the way nature intended.

"Why don't these last forever?"

It's the question I get asked most across a market table, and it's a fair one.

There are no conventional preservatives in Kōzōn products, so they aren't designed to sit on a shelf for years. We make them in small batches, as fresh as we can, rather than making a lot of something and asking it to stay stable for a long time.

That's a trade, and it's one we make on purpose. I'd rather make less, make it well, and make it fresh.

If we don't need it, we don't put it in.

That's the whole rule. I grew up in rural Hungary, where almost nothing arrived finished — we used good ingredients, we didn't waste what we had, and we didn't add something just because we could.

None of that was a lifestyle at the time. It was simply how things were done. But it leaves you with one habit that doesn't wear off, and every Kōzōn formula still has to pass it.

Seven ingredients. That's the whole label.

Swipe through them one at a time — a mineral, an oil, a butter, a wax, a herb, a root and a vitamin — and the last slide is what they make together.

Nothing on the list is there for any reason other than what it does in the jar. Every one of them is on the label, and you can pronounce all seven.

“I’ve been looking for a lip balm that is actually good for your lips and doesn’t have chemicals in it. This is the only one I’ve found and I am thrilled so far! With its added ozone and all-natural ingredients, it’s so effective for moisturizing even in the driest conditions (including Northeast winters!), that it greatly improves appearance/fullness of the lips too. The tinted ones are also amazing and have great long-lasting color!”

Three shades of the O₃ Tinted Lip Balm: Cool Pink, Passionata and Bordeaux.

A word on what these are, because the name misleads people. They are balms with a tint, not lipsticks. Mica gives a sheer, shimmery hint of colour — if you're after full coverage, this isn't it, and we'd rather say so than have it arrive as a surprise.

What they are instead is the balm you can wear every day. Coconut oil infused with activated oxygen (O₃), beeswax, cocoa butter and vitamin E. Five ingredients. That's the whole list.

Cool Pink is a pastel with blue and violet undertones, the most luminous of the three. Bordeaux is the deep one. Passionata sits between them.

$9 each.

These do different jobs, and knowing which is which makes both work better.

Glycerin is a humectant. It draws moisture to the skin's surface. On its own, in dry air, that moisture can leave again.

Oil is the other half. It sits on top and helps hold what the glycerin drew in.

So the order matters: glycerin first, onto slightly damp skin. Oil second, to seal.

If your skin feels tight ten minutes after a hydrating serum, you probably skipped the second step.

Ours are Ozonated Glycerin — one ingredient, organic USP-certified glycerin activated with ultra-pure ozone — and Etesian Face Oil. But again: the principle holds whatever's already on your shelf.

Following on from last week: the two things a gua sha routine actually needs, in one set.

A full-size bottle of Etesian Face Oil — organic apricot kernel infused with activated oxygen, with cistus and frankincense. And the Amethyst Gua Sha, polished smooth.

The oil goes on first. The stone follows.

We put them together because they're the pair people end up buying separately anyway, usually a few weeks apart, usually after the stone has already dragged once on dry skin.

$70 for the set.

The most common gua sha mistake is using it on dry skin.

The stone needs something to glide over. On bare skin it drags — which is uncomfortable, and it pulls at skin you were trying to be gentle with.

So: oil first, then stone.

A few drops of face oil, pressed in with your fingers. Then the gua sha, flat side against the skin, moving outward along the contours of your face. Light pressure. The tool should slide, never tug.

If it catches, you need more oil, not more pressure.

Ours is amethyst, and it pairs with the Etesian Face Oil — apricot kernel infused with activated oxygen. But the principle holds whatever stone and whatever oil you already own.
