Salon owners! Do you do development meetings with your team?
I do monthly meetings with my team. I’ve found it to be more beneficial than I had originally anticipated!
I never wanted my team to feel like it’s all about the $$$. I always feared doing a tracker would make them feel that way.
The key with most things is balance. Knowing your numbers is an essential part of business and growing your team. But making sure we are keyed into ALL their goals is where the magic happens.
I’m not dumb, I know my team didn’t put $20,000+ and years of hard work into their careers to work for me forever. I want them to feel comfortable enough with me that we can grow them towards *all* of their goals together!
A bonus to doing monthly meetings is it also enables better communication. Which helps address problems before they get too big.

“Hello, my name is Catie! Im a new graduate from Oliver Finley who’s ready to hit the ground running. I’ve been practicing hair for quite a while now, teaching myself most of what I know. I love all things hair, but I’m especially passionate about vivids, color, cuts, and textured hair. And hair integrity is my #1 priority. I would like to specialize in vivids, haircuts, and textured hair. And I’m constantly looking to grow all my skills and knowledge. But most of all my main goal is to give people a way to express their inner self in any way possible. I’m also an Esthetician, just not actively practicing right now. So I can mostly answer your skincare questions as well. When I’m not at work I’m either spending time with my 4 year old daughter and my cats or hanging out with my friends. Let’s talk purple shampoo…
When you’re a brunette baddie, you might think about using purple shampoo when your toner fades.
Let me stop you there friend! When your hair is brunette the warm tones you battle are actually orange, not yellow. So what you really need is a BLUE shampoo.
Now personally, I’m not a huge fan of these shampoos. But if you’re going to use them, let’s make sure we are using them correctly!
-Purple cancels out yellow tones
-Blue cancels out orange tones
(I’ve even seen green shampoos to cancel out red tones!)

Free gender affirming haircuts started out as a way for Michaela to give back. It evolved into nearly my whole team wanting to also give back.
