I need to brag on Kendra Brooke Burchett at Rippies Ink LLC for a minute. 🖤
When Kendra came to me wanting to learn how to pierce, I knew how much this meant to her. This wasn’t just something she thought might be fun. This was something she had wanted to do since she was a teenager, and she came into this apprenticeship ready to WORK for it.
And she did.
163 piercings later, she has officially completed her apprenticeship and is now a licensed body piercer in Kentucky!
I am so incredibly proud of her.
I may have taught her how to pierce, but SHE is the one who put in the work. She asked questions. She practiced. She studied. She listened. She took correction. She showed up. And she worked her ass off while also being a mom and juggling everything else life throws at us.
One of the things I’m most proud of is that she didn’t just want to learn how to put a needle through somebody. She wanted to understand WHY we do things the way we do. She cared about doing things safely, ethically, and correctly. And that matters so much to me.
Watching her confidence grow from those first nervous piercings to seeing her work independently has been pretty damn amazing.
Kendra, thank you for trusting me to mentor you and for taking everything I taught you seriously. I hope you are as proud of yourself as I am of you.

Your piercing jewelry needs a little breathing room at first!

Fresh piercings are usually fitted with jewelry that’s slightly longer than what you’ll eventually wear. That extra space allows for normal swelling during the initial healing period.

Once the swelling has gone down, many piercings should be downsized by a professional piercer. Leaving jewelry too long can cause excess movement, snagging, irritation, and even changes in the piercing angle.
