A good provider will sometimes look at your intake form and say: not today. That's not a rejection. That's protection.
Before we book anyone for Venus Viva™ RF resurfacing, we walk through more than 20 contraindications together. Recent Botox or filler? A pacemaker or metal implant? Accutane in the last six months? Active cold sores, certain medications, a fresh sunburn from a long weekend up at the lake? Each one matters, and each one shapes the timing of your treatment.
Think of it like prepping a garden bed before planting. If the soil is still frozen from a late Brainerd spring, you don't force the seeds in and hope for the best. You wait two weeks, you adjust, and everything grows better for it.
Questions we actually want you to ask us:
✦ "Is now the right time, given what I've had done recently?"
✦ "Are any of my prescriptions on your watch list?"
✦ "What should I pause before my appointment, and for how long?"
A thorough screening isn't a slow yes. It's the reason your results hold up months later. ❄

Cabin season is officially here in the Brainerd Lakes, and somewhere between digging out the swimsuits and loading the pontoon, a lot of us start thinking about the skin on the backs of our legs in ways we just didn't in January.
So here's a little science, no pressure attached. Body contouring treatments like cryolipolysis work by cooling targeted fat cells to a temperature that they can't survive, but the skin and surrounding tissue can. Think of a strawberry you accidentally left in the freezer. Once it thaws, its structure is permanently changed. Fat cells respond in a similar way. Once treated, your body gradually clears them out over the following weeks.
Cellulite is a slightly different conversation. Those dimples aren't really about fat alone, they're about the fibrous bands tethering your skin down to deeper tissue. Treatments that address cellulite work on those bands and on the collagen in the skin above them, which is why texture changes show up gradually rather than overnight.
The honest timeline: most clients start noticing changes around 4 to 6 weeks, with fuller results closer to the 12-week mark. That's your body doing the work, not a quick fix.
Lake season lasts a long time up here ❄ If you're curious about what's actually possible for your skin and your goals, we're always happy to walk you through it at a consultation, no commitment required.

Watering a tomato plant once in June won't get you tomatoes in August. Your skin works the same way.
One treatment is a real moment. You'll walk out with brighter, smoother skin, and for a lot of goals, that's exactly the right call. Trying a service for the first time? Want a glow before a lake weekend or a wedding? Keeping up the results you already love? A single session does the job.
A series is a different conversation. Our RF resurfacing protocol, for example, runs three sessions spaced four weeks apart. That spacing isn't arbitrary. Each visit triggers a fresh collagen response, and the next session builds on the remodeling already underway. Skip the spacing and you skip the stacking.
Think of it like physical therapy. One appointment can ease the tension. Structural change happens over the course of visits.
So when does a series actually matter? When you're working on something that took years to build, acne scarring, deeper texture, laxity from decades of Minnesota winters and summer sun. One snapshot won't undo a long story. A series can.
Not sure which lane you're in? That's the conversation we have at your consultation, and there's no wrong answer. ❄

June sun on the lake has a way of revealing every freckle, pore, and rough patch we forgot about over winter.
If your skin is feeling more "textured" than you'd like lately, you may have heard your provider mention RF resurfacing during a consultation. It sounds clinical. It's actually pretty straightforward.
Radiofrequency resurfacing (noun): controlled heat delivered just below the skin's surface to rebuild what time, sun, and life have worn down.
Think of it like a foundation repair on an older home. We're not repainting the walls or scrubbing the siding. We're going underneath to strengthen the structure, so everything on the surface sits better. The heat gently signals your skin to produce fresh collagen, which softens the look of scars, enlarged pores, and uneven texture from the inside out. ❄
On our Venus Viva, that means tiny points of energy reaching the deeper layers while keeping the surface comfortable. You're welcome to ask us anything mid-treatment: what setting we're on, what you're feeling, what to expect tomorrow. An informed client is always our favorite kind.
If "RF resurfacing" has been floating around your consultation conversations and you want it explained in plain English, come sit with us. We'll walk through whether it's the right fit for your skin and your summer.

Think of your skin like a home that's due for a renovation. RF resurfacing is the contractor your skin hires to rebuild from the inside out. ❄
Here's what that actually means: radiofrequency energy delivers controlled heat in microscopic points across the surface. Those tiny, precise spots act like a work order, telling your skin to send collagen and elastin to the job site.
We use Venus Viva RF technology, and the appointments are shorter than most people expect. Sessions run 15 to 30 minutes, and we typically recommend a series of 3 treatments spaced about 4 weeks apart. That spacing isn't arbitrary, it gives your skin time to do the rebuilding work between visits.
What it helps with: uneven texture, fine lines, enlarged pores, and the kind of dull, weathered look our Minnesota winters love to leave behind. You'll feel warmth during the treatment, and we walk you through every step so nothing is a surprise.
Curious whether RF resurfacing fits what your skin actually needs? Send us a message or stop by the Brainerd studio. We'll talk through it together, no pressure.

She skipped sunscreen for two days after her resurfacing session. Her provider still cringes when she tells that story. 🌿
That's one of three things a client recently told us she wishes someone had spelled out before her first Venus Viva RF appointment. The other two? Showing up with a full skincare routine still on her face, and trying to book her sessions too close together because she wanted faster results.
The slides break down all three, in her own words, including what the "warm, mildly sunburned" feeling actually means and why those four weeks between sessions are doing more work than you'd think.
If skin resurfacing is on your radar this summer, swipe through before you book. A few small things on the front end make a real difference in what you see at the end.
Questions about prep, aftercare, or whether resurfacing is right for your skin? Send us a message anytime. We'd rather answer them now than have you Googling at midnight after session one.

A client came in last week asking for "smoother skin." Five minutes into the consultation, we realized she didn't need texture work at all. She needed firmness.
Two completely different treatments. Two very different results. And it's one of the most common mix-ups we see at the studio.
Here's the easiest way to think about it:
Skin resurfacing is like refinishing a hardwood floor. It works on the surface, smoothing texture, softening fine lines, refining pores, and fading old acne scars. Our Venus Viva RF lives in this category.
Skin tightening works on the frame underneath. It addresses laxity along the jawline, crepey areas on the neck, and that loss of firmness that shows up somewhere in our 30s and 40s, when collagen production quietly slows about 1% a year.
So before you book anything, ask yourself one question: when you look in the mirror, are you reaching for the texture, or are you lifting the skin slightly to see what it used to do? Your answer points to your treatment.
Not sure which camp you're in? That's exactly what consultations are for. Send us a message and we'll walk you through it, no pressure to book anything that day. ❄

Two sessions. That's often all it takes to change how your skin feels under your fingertips.
Most people picture skin resurfacing as something aggressive, with weeks of hiding indoors afterward. The reality of radiofrequency resurfacing is a lot more approachable, and we wanted to clear up what actually happens.
Three things worth knowing before your first session:
❄ It works in 2-3 sessions, spaced about 4 weeks apart. RF energy reaches the deeper layers of your skin and gently stimulates collagen production, which is what smooths texture and softens fine lines over time.
❄ Recovery feels like a mild sunburn. Your face will look flushed and feel warm for about 24 hours. Skip makeup and lotion for one day, and you're back to your normal routine.
❄ Venus Viva RF is safe for every skin tone. Because the energy doesn't target melanin, it's a genuinely inclusive option, including for darker complexions where some lasers carry more risk.
Brainerd friends, knowing what to expect takes the mystery out of the process. Curious whether RF resurfacing is right for your skin? Send us a message and we'll walk you through it.
