One of the questions we hear most often is:
“How do you massage someone who’s pregnant?”
The answer is simple: comfort and support.
At Repose, prenatal clients are positioned side-lying with supportive bolsters designed to help keep both mom and baby comfortable throughout the session.
You may have seen special pregnancy cushions that allow you to lie face down. While that sounds amazing (we get it 😅), those systems aren’t always the best fit for every body or every pregnancy.
With side-lying positioning, we can customize support for your unique body and changing needs, helping you stay comfortable throughout the entire session.
This allows us to safely address many of the areas that commonly become sore during pregnancy, including:

✨ Low back
✨ Glutes
✨ Neck and shoulders
✨ Legs and feet
Our goal is to create a space where expecting moms can relax, unwind, and get a little relief from the aches and pains that often come with a growing belly.

Why would we massage here? Calves 👇
Most people don’t think much about their calves until they’re cramping at 2 a.m. or complaining halfway through a flight of stairs. 😂
Your calf is actually made up of multiple muscles, including the gastrocnemius and soleus, that help control ankle movement, absorb force, and propel you forward every time you take a step.
When these tissues become tight or overworked, they can contribute to:
✨ Foot discomfort
✨ Achilles tension
✨ Reduced ankle mobility
✨ Shin splints
✨ Calf cramping
✨ Increased strain throughout the lower body
One of my favorite things about working on calves is that clients are often surprised by how much tension they hold there.
“I didn’t even know that was tight!”
Meanwhile, their calf feels like it has been preparing for battle since 2017. 😂
Because everything in the body is connected, restricted movement at the ankle can influence how the knee and hip move as well. Sometimes giving the calves a little attention can help the entire lower body feel more comfortable and move more freely.
So if you’re on your feet all day, logging miles on the trail, chasing kids, hitting the gym, or spending hours driving, your calves might be working harder than you realize.
And yes… they’re absolutely worth massaging. 💚

“Why are they working on my legs? My neck is what hurts!” 🤔
We hear this all the time!
The body works as one connected system, so the area that hurts isn’t always where the problem starts.
Your quadriceps (the muscles on the front of your thighs) help support your knees, hips, and pelvis. When they’re tight, they can contribute to discomfort in places you might not expect, including your knees, hips, and low back.
That’s why your massage therapist may spend time working on your quads, even if you booked because of neck or back tension.
At Repose, every session is customized to your body and your goals. Depending on what we find during your session, your therapist may use therapeutic massage, heated bamboo, hot stones, cupping, or a combination of techniques to help you move and feel your best.
Massage isn’t about chasing pain. It’s about looking at how your body works together and treating the muscles that may be contributing to it.
