Here I am training a new Massage Therapist and when I told her that if I went into a massage therapy session and said I had shoulder tension, and they did not work my subscapularis, I would thank them for a decent massage, but it would not offer me the long-term results I was hoping for. Here is the difference: I am teaching this Massage Therapist to understand the relationship of different fascial lines and scapular positioning muscles and that we need to first warm-up the tissue because getting in this area can be very spicy. We may consider working from broad to specific, and with impingement situations, we want to get deep into the axilla, or armpit technique patterns, went forward to show her how to do this in different positions which I think is the most beneficial. Change things up; : be curious and be attuned!.
