Millie Petite Mom Style

I’ve been thinking a lot about what I want my legacy to be.

I come from generations of people who survived things I can barely imagine. My family came here as refugees. War, loss, sacrifice and starting over are woven into our history. And some of that pain traveled through generations.

But when I look at my children, I realize:

They don’t have to inherit all of it.

They can know where they came from, be proud of their roots and understand what came before them without believing suffering is the price of belonging.

I want my children to remember a mom who fu***ng loved being alive.

The silly mom. The overdressed mom. The mom singing too loudly in the car. The mom who went to the gym when she was tired, loved her career, chased opportunities and never stopped becoming.

I want my daughter to remember me teaching her how fun it is to get fancy and put on makeup, then watching me wash it off and love the woman underneath.

I tell her my favorite part of my body is my squishy belly. My most favorite is the scar where both of my babies came into this world.

Everything has beauty if you let it.

My kids see me happy. They see me sad. They see me make mistakes, apologize and keep going.

I don’t want them to think strength means never struggling.

I want them to know you can struggle and still love your life. You can love people fiercely without abandoning yourself. And choosing yourself can make you better able to love them, too.

Maybe that’s what breaking cycles looks like.

Not erasing the past, but deciding what gets to continue through me.

I hope they remember a mom who laughed loudly. Wore the outfit. Took the picture. Chased the opportunity. Said sorry. Started over. Loved them fiercely.

And never, ever gave up on herself.

So when life knocks them down, I hope they remember:

Neither should I.

That’s my legacy.

Not perfection.

Just completely, ridiculously, unapologetically me.
