Your locs can look healthy on the outside while some habits are slowly causing problems underneath. 👀

Here are a few common mistakes to watch out for:

1. Retightening too often
More maintenance isn’t always better. Retightening too frequently can put unnecessary tension on your roots and contribute to thinning.

2. Keeping your locs constantly tight
Slick styles, tight ponytails, and pulling your locs back too often can put stress on your roots.

3. Not drying your locs completely
Moisture trapped inside locs for too long can create an environment where odor and buildup become a problem. Proper drying matters!

4. Overloading your locs with products
Oils, creams, gels, waxes, and heavy products can build up inside your locs and make them difficult to cleanse properly.

5. Ignoring your scalp
Your locs need attention, but so does the scalp underneath them. A healthy loc journey starts with a healthy scalp.

6. Waiting until there’s a problem to get maintenance
Severe thinning, excessive buildup, weak spots, or damaged locs are much easier to address early.

Your locs don’t need more of everything. They need the right care, consistency, and patience. 🤎

Those little rods can make a BIG difference in your loc style. 👀✨

But what’s the difference between perm rods and flexi rods?

Both can be used to create curls on locs, but they don’t give you the exact same result.

Perm rods are firm rods that create more defined, structured curls. The smaller the rod, the tighter the curl.

Flexi rods are flexible, foam-covered rods that can create softer, more elongated curls and waves depending on the size and how the locs are wrapped.

So which one should you use? 🤔

It really depends on the length and size of your locs, the look you want, and the type of curl you’re trying to achieve.

Save this for the next time you’re ready to switch up your locs! 🤎

Every loctician has their preferred technique, but here’s why I often reach for a 4-point rotation:

✨ Creates a balanced foundation.
A consistent rotation helps the loc maintain its shape as it grows.

✨ Provides a secure retightening.
The pattern helps keep the new growth neat and minimizes slippage between appointments.

✨ Promotes consistency.
Using the same rotation every visit helps your client’s locs develop more evenly over time.

✨ Works well for long-term maintenance.
When done correctly, a 4-point rotation can help maintain the integrity of the loc without over-manipulating the hair.

Every client’s hair is different, so no single rotation works for everyone. Understanding why you choose a technique is just as important as knowing how to do it.

What’s your go-to rotation and why? Let’s talk in the comments!
