Scar revision first. Shape restoration second. Color last.

Following gender-affirming top surgery, scar tissue can sometimes contract and distort the original ar**la. In this case, puckering had pulled the ar**la into a more elongated, oblong shape rather than the rounder shape intended for the chest.

Rather than immediately tattooing a larger circle around the distortion, I approached this reconstruction in stages.

Photo 1: Before treatment — contracted scar tissue had puckered and elongated the ar**la.

Photo 2: After the first session and 8 weeks of healing — controlled tattoo needling was used to work and soften the scar tissue, allowing it to flatten and creating a more even foundation for the next stage.

Photo 3: Second session — once I could see the true healed boundaries of the flattened tissue, I mapped a more balanced ar**la within an appropriate proportion for the chest, custom color-matched the pigment, and tattooed the new shape.

Waiting for the scar to flatten before committing to heavier color saturation is especially important here. If I had tried to compensate for the puckering by enlarging the ar**la during the first session, I could have created a final diameter that was larger than intended once the scar relaxed.

By working progressively, I can be conservative with the boundaries, evaluate how the scar responds, and build the shape, symmetry and color with much greater precision.

Gender-affirming restorative tattooing isn’t just about adding pigment—it’s about understanding scar tissue, anatomy and proportion so the tattoo complements the surgical result.

One of the biggest mistakes I have seen in the Camouflage world is not retexturing and improving scar tissue prior to mapping out ar**la shape/ symmetry before tattooing color all around it and making too large of a shape. This happens when the scar tissue relaxes from the needling and expanding outside its original constricted border/ shape. Everytime it leaves a much larger looking ar**la and unnecessary margins of pigment. Scar revision first. Shape restoration second. Color last.

Great scar camouflage starts with the scar itself. ✨

When a surgical scar has uneven texture, firmness, or raised areas, immediately packing in more pigment isn’t necessarily the answer. The tissue first needs to become a better canvas for camouflage.

With this client, scar revision + camouflage are being performed progressively over multiple sessions. Controlled needling helps soften and remodel the scar tissue while gradually introducing color. As the scar becomes smoother and more even, subsequent sessions can build higher pigment saturation in more consistent layers, creating increasingly seamless coverage.

It’s a process—and each session prepares the skin for the next.

The ultimate goal: smooth the texture, restore the missing color, and blend the scar as seamlessly as possible with the surrounding skin.

If you have a surgical scar that is both textured and discolored, a combination approach may give you a much more refined result than camouflage alone.

Your breast lift scars don’t have to be the first thing you notice. 🤍

Hypopigmented scars can remain noticeably lighter than the surrounding skin long after surgery and healing are complete. Paramedical scar camouflage uses custom-blended tattoo pigments to gradually soften that contrast and help the scars blend more naturally into the surrounding skin.

This result was achieved in 2 scar camouflage sessions, building the color gradually for a soft, natural-looking blend.

If your breast lift, reduction, augmentation, or other breast surgery left you with light surgical scars, scar camouflage may be an option once the tissue is fully healed and mature.

I told her it would take a year! And here we are right on schedule with one more session to go!

This client came to me after multiple laser tattoo removal sessions that lifted most of her previous tattoo but left behind some residual ink and hypopigmentation of the skin. At one point after laser removal she did do a camouflage test spot with another artist to try and cover some of the darker cool spots and camouflage to her skin tone. Unfortunately the color matches were not best suited for this particular case and it left behind some additional pigment in the skin.
I told her it would be a year of appointments, every 2-3 months to cover it all.

Now all I have left for the last session is to add a final layer of skin tone pigment to the hypopigmentation and brush over a little lighter corrective tone over our leftover bruise colors.

This was one of the most fun camouflage projects I’ve had for laser tattoo removal scars in a while!

Facelift Scar Camouflage ✨

Facelift scars are designed to be discreet—but when they heal lighter than the surrounding skin, they can become especially noticeable around the ear and hairline.

This is before scar camouflage, showing a mature, hypopigmented facelift scar prior to adding any pigment.

With paramedical tattooing, custom skin-tone pigments are carefully layered into the scar tissue to help soften the contrast between the scar and the surrounding skin. The goal isn’t to “cover” the scar with an opaque color—it’s to build natural-looking color gradually so the scar blends more seamlessly with the skin.

Scar camouflage is typically a multi-session process, allowing each layer to heal before we evaluate and refine the color.

Because sometimes the smallest detail can make a big difference in ponytail confidence. 🤍

Liposuction Scar Camouflage — 2 Sessions ✨

Small scars can still feel incredibly noticeable—especially when they’re in an unexpected area.

This client was left with hypopigmented scars near the knees following liposuction. Because the scar tissue had healed lighter than the surrounding skin, the goal of paramedical tattooing was to gradually reintroduce natural-looking skin tone into the scars, helping them blend more seamlessly with the surrounding tissue.

After just 2 camouflage sessions, the contrast has already been significantly reduced.

Scar camouflage is intentionally built in thin, translucent layers rather than trying to cover a scar completely in one appointment. This allows me to evaluate how the pigment heals, adjust the color between sessions, and create a much more natural result.

✨ Liposuction scars
✨ Surgical scars
✨ Hypopigmented scars
✨ Stretch marks

Results shown are after 2 sessions. Additional refinement may be recommended depending on how the pigment continues to heal and settle.
