The strongest brand stories don't always begin with a logo. Sometimes they begin with the building itself.

Dior's newest flagship in Osaka, Japan, designed by architect Sou Fujimoto, shows how a storefront can do more than just house a retail experience. Inspired by the softness and movement associated with the fashion house, the building gives visitors a sense of the brand before they ever step inside.

This is part of a broader shift happening across retail. The physical store is becoming one of a brand's most powerful ways to communicate identity. Materials, form, and architectural details all play a part in creating an experience that feels unmistakably connected to the brand.

If a building can make someone stop in their tracks, it's already done part of its job.

Consider this your shortcut through the retail industry noise.

Consumers are spending more, but with way more scrutiny. They're comparing prices with AI before they buy, discovering products on social feeds instead of storefronts, and choosing malls that feel like a destination.

Follow along as we explore what's shaping the future of retail, one conversation at a time.

What if "try it on" meant trying on a whole new reality?

The most valuable thing a store can offer today isn't always the product. Sometimes it's the chance to answer the question "is this actually for me?"

That's the thinking behind Best Buy's latest collaboration with Meta. Together, they're introducing dedicated in-store spaces where shoppers can experience Meta's latest smart glasses and VR technology before deciding whether to bring it home.

It's another example of digital and physical retail working together instead of competing with one another. The screen may spark curiosity, but the store is where confidence is built.

Would you spend more time in a store if it had a café at the center of it?

Michael Kors is betting yes with its new Beijing, China flagship, bringing the brand's "Jet Set Lounge" concept to Asia for the first time.

After a successful debut in New York and London, this sit-down lounge serves up coffee, tea, and NY-inspired sweets.

Settle in with a latte, chat with a friend, or simply take a break before wandering the store again.

The more time guests spend in the space, the more naturally they connect with the brand and everything around them.

Looks like this retailer saved you a first-class seat right in the heart of Beijing.

Proof that the path to dinner can be just as memorable as the meal.

Some restaurant experiences begin the moment you sit down. Yiaga begins long before that.

Hidden within Melbourne's Fitzroy Gardens, this 44-seat restaurant transforms a once-forgotten pavilion into an experience that unfolds one step at a time. Winding gardens lead to a grand entrance, reflecting the meaning of Yiaga: "seek and find."

Inside, more than 13,000 handcrafted terracotta tiles wrap the space, echoing the texture of the surrounding trees, while floor-to-ceiling glass lets the gardens feel like an extension of the dining room. Nearly every detail comes from local makers, creating a space that feels deeply connected to its surroundings.

Every table is treated the same, every guest shares a similar view, and the open kitchen takes center stage, allowing the chefs' craft to become part of the atmosphere.

Every great brand deserves a clear point of view.

As one of the first touchpoints for new retail accounts, a lens portfolio carries a lot of responsibility. Part product guide, part brand experience, it's often the very first thing a buyer holds in their hands.

Every detail matters.

Working alongside Serengeti Eyewear, we designed a lens portfolio that feels every bit as refined as the glasses themselves - setting the standard for quality, craftsmanship, and storytelling.

Premium materials, thoughtful organization, and elevated branding come together in a sales tool that helps retailers feel confident and informed from the very first look.

The secret to staying relevant in might be hiding around the corner.

Selfridges' Corner Shop is a permanent space built for constant reinvention. Tucked inside the iconic Oxford Street flagship, it continually transforms into immersive pop-ups that hand the spotlight to a new creative vision with every installation.

Right now, visitors can step inside the playful, whimsical world of gustafwestman. Before that, the space has been reimagined by names like Prada, SKIMS, Versace, and many more.

No two visits are ever identical.

For brands, it's a unique opportunity to create an unforgettable physical experience without the commitment of a standalone store. For shoppers, it's a reason to keep coming back, knowing there's always something new waiting around the corner.

The most important part of your store might be the part that sells... nothing.

Have you ever noticed how the first 10 to 15 feet inside many stores feel surprisingly open?

Instead of immediately greeting you with towering displays or endless promotions, you're often welcomed by a simple display of seasonal flowers and plants. This creates a calm first impression before the shopping begins.

That's no accident.

Retail designers call this the decompression zone: a carefully planned transition space that gives shoppers a chance to adjust to new lighting, sounds, temperatures, and their surroundings before asking them to make purchasing decisions.

Research shows customers are less likely to notice products or promotional messaging during these first few seconds, making open space far more valuable than crowded displays.

Sometimes less really does lead to more.

These design trends won't be getting a restock.

Every few years, the retail landscape gets a reset. The materials, finishes, and merchandising strategies that once felt fresh eventually become so familiar they fade into the background.

According to Forbes, consumers in 2026 are placing greater value on craftsmanship, layered materials, and fixtures designed to evolve over time rather than be replaced with every new campaign.

The result is a more memorable customer experience and retail spaces with lasting relevance instead of a short shelf life. Swipe through to see four styles on their way out this year.

Which one do you think will have the biggest influence on stores over the next few years?

Plot twist: one of the biggest trends in retail isn't on the shelves. It's behind the scenes.

With rising costs and unpredictable global trade, retailers are giving their supply chains a serious glow-up. Many are moving production closer to home, diversifying suppliers, and leaning into AI for a clearer picture of inventory demand.

By the numbers:
-95% of retail executives surveyed anticipate rising costs due to global trade policies.
-30% of retailers already use AI to improve supply chain visibility.
-59% of executives expect AI-driven supply chain initiatives to deliver a positive ROI.

Supply chains have evolved from an operational necessity into a strategic advantage. In an increasingly unpredictable market, the brands that can adapt the fastest will be the ones consumers keep seeing on the shelves!
