When Locticians ask us what changed most when they started working with a mentor, the answer is almost always the same: everything. 💛
Not because a mentor hands you all the answers, but because having the right guidance changes how you approach every question.
Here’s what we see shift when a Loctician steps into mentorship:
🔸 Their technique becomes more precise and intentional
🔸 Their client consultations become more confident and thorough
🔸 Their business decisions stop feeling like guesses
🔸 Their relationship with their own growth becomes healthier
🔸 They stop second-guessing themselves at every turn
A mentor doesn’t just accelerate your timeline. They raise your ceiling.

Here’s something nobody tells you when you start out as a Loctician: the learning curve is steep, and figuring it out alone is expensive. 💛
Expensive in time. Expensive in confidence. Sometimes expensive in clients you lose before you find your footing.
A mentor changes that equation completely. Instead of spending two years learning what works through trial and error, you learn it in months from someone who already paid the price of those mistakes and is now handing you the lessons.
Mentorship isn’t admitting you don’t know enough. It’s deciding you’re serious enough about your craft to invest in getting better at it. That’s not a weakness. That’s wisdom.
At Fine Gold Locs, mentorship is something we take seriously because we know what it would have meant to have this when we were starting out. 🙌

If you’ve ever felt like you were figuring everything out alone in this industry this one’s for you. 💛
A mentor is more than an instructor. A mentor is someone who has already lived through the questions you’re asking, made the mistakes you’re about to make, and built the kind of practice you’re working toward. And instead of keeping that knowledge to themselves, they choose to give it to you.
In the Loctician world, mentorship means having someone in your corner who understands the craft at a deep level: the technique, the client relationships, the business side, the hard days. Someone who doesn’t just tell you what to do but helps you understand why.
That kind of guidance changes everything. Not just how fast you grow, but how well you grow.
If you’ve been looking for that person, our mentorship program at Fine Gold Locs was built for exactly this moment. 🙌

People ask me sometimes. “Why Locs? Why SisterLocks™? Why this when there are easier, faster paths in the beauty industry?” 💛
And my answer is always the same… because this is the work that actually matters to me.
I've sat across from clients who cried during consultations because they'd been turned away before. Clients who were told their hair was "too this" or "not enough that." Clients who didn't believe their natural hair could be what they dreamed it could be.
And then we got to work. And their hair became something extraordinary.
That's why I do this. That moment. That shift. That look someone gets when they see themselves differently.
Fine Gold Locs exists because every person with natural hair deserves a Loctician who truly shows up for them with skill, with patience, with honesty, and with love for what this work represents.
My team and I bring that to every single appointment. 🙌

Hi, I'm Desi, and if we haven't met yet, I'm so glad you're here. 💛
I started Fine Gold Locs because I believe deeply in the power of natural hair not just as a style, but as an identity. As a statement. As something worth protecting and honoring with real expertise and real care.
My journey into SisterLocks™ and MicroLocks started with my own hair. Feeling the shift that comes when you stop fighting your natural texture and start working with it. Watching other women experience that same shift in my chair is what keeps me going every single day.
Over the years, I've built a practice grounded in:
✨ Honesty: I'll always tell you the truth about your hair.
✨ Education: I want every client to leave knowing more than when they came in.
✨ Precision: I take the craft of interlocking and grid-setting seriously.
✨ Care: not just for your Locs, but for you.
Whether you're brand new to Locs or you've been on this journey for years, my team and I are here for all of it. 🙌

Something I've learned over the years: the more I give away, the more this craft grows. 💛
Mentorship isn't something I do on the side… It's built into the DNA of Fine Gold Locs. Because I genuinely believe that when Locticians are better trained, better educated, and more confident, clients everywhere win.
What does mentorship at Fine Gold Locs actually look like?
✨ Deep dives into technique grid mapping, InterLocking, client assessment
✨ Real conversations about the business side of being a Loctician
✨ Learning how to educate clients, not just serve them
✨ Navigating complex hair situations, gray hair, thinning, pattern baldness
✨ Building a practice built on trust, not just transactions
If you're building your career in Locs and you want a mentor who's going to tell you the truth and push you to be exceptional, let's talk.

I want to tell you something I don't say often enough: mentoring future Locticians might be the most important work I do. 💛
When I started this journey, I had to figure out a lot on my own. I made mistakes, some of them costly. And I promised myself that if I ever reached a point where I truly knew what I was doing, I would turn around and give that knowledge to someone else who was just starting out.
That's exactly what I do through Fine Gold Locs mentorship and education.
But this isn't just about passing down skills. It's about cultivating a standard. The Loc industry grows every year, and not everyone entering it is properly trained.
Every Loctician I mentor is someone who will go on to serve clients with integrity, precision, and genuine care.
That matters. For every client in every chair.
If you're a Loctician or aspiring Loctician interested in mentorship or education with Fine Gold Locs, reach out… Our team would love to connect. 🙌

We need to bust this one wide open. 🙅🏾♀️💛
The myth: gray hair is coarse, unruly, and impossible to manage.
The truth: gray hair behaves differently, but different is not the same as difficult. It just requires understanding.
Here's what's actually going on with gray hair texture:
🔸 Gray strands have lost their melanin, which also means they've lost some of the natural oils that pigmented hair produces. This can make them feel drier or more wiry. 🔸 The cuticle layer on gray hair tends to be slightly more raised, which is why it can sometimes feel coarser to the touch. 🔸 Gray hair is more transparent, which means it reflects light differently. It can look frizzy in conditions that wouldn't affect pigmented hair.
None of this means it's unmanageable. It means it needs moisture, the right products, and a stylist or Loctician who actually understands its unique structure.
In Locs specifically, gray hair can be absolutely stunning. It Locks differently and on its own timeline, but when it matures, there is genuinely nothing like it.
Stop letting the myth keep you from the hair you want. 🌿

Let me be real with you, going gray scared me. And I think a lot of people feel this but don't say it out loud. 🤍
Here's what was actually going through my head:
😔 "I'll look older overnight." People will stop seeing me as vibrant, current, relevant. The beauty industry has spent decades telling us gray = decline.
😔 "My clients won't take me seriously." If I can't maintain my own hair, why would anyone trust me with theirs? That one sat with me for a while.
😔 "I'll regret it and want to go back." What if I don't like it? What if it doesn't suit me? What if I miss the color?
😔 "The transition will look messy and unprofessional." The grow-out phase is real. It's not always cute. I wasn't sure I could sit in that discomfort publicly.
Here's what actually happened: none of those fears played out the way I imagined. The transition was uncomfortable, but it was also clarifying. And the silver that came in? It's mine. Fully and completely mine.
If you're sitting with these same fears right now, I want you to know that's completely valid. And you don't have to figure it out alone. 💛

I'm going to be honest about something. 🤍
For a long time, I colored my hair. And for a long time, I told myself it was a choice that I liked the color, that it was just maintenance, that it didn't mean anything.
But if I'm being real? A lot of it was fear. Fear of what gray meant. Fear of how I'd be perceived. Fear of looking older in an industry where youth gets a lot of attention.
The day I decided to stop was the day I realized I was spending significant time, money, and chemical exposure trying to hide something completely natural. Something my body was doing on its own timeline, for its own reasons.
Stopping wasn't instant confidence. It was a process. The grow-out phase is uncomfortable. People notice. They comment. Some of them mean well, and some of them don't.
But on the other side of it? I genuinely love what I see. And I've never felt more aligned with what I teach my clients every single day… That your natural hair, in its natural state, is enough. More than enough.
If you're thinking about making the transition, our team is here to help you do it on your terms. 💛
