NOT SURPRISED. An Omani co-pilot tried to turn a Dubai-to-Tel Aviv flight into a mass-casualty attack. Authorities say Hamam al-Hammami struck the Indian captain with a cockpit crash axe, seized the controls, and sent the jet into a steep dive. The wounded captain opened the door, and passengers and off-duty pilots overpowered him before an emergency landing in Saudi Arabia.

He was not an unknown. Reporting says Oman Air had already pulled him from flying over extremist concerns, yet he was later hired by Flydubai and rostered onto one of the region’s most sensitive routes. A British aviation-management degree did not stop the radicalization officials now describe.
