With the recent talk about the Neutrogena aerosol SPF and the misinformation being spread about SPF I wanted to just talk about it quickly here because it’s been really crushing my Esthetician soul 😅

What happened with the Neutrogena products was a big batch problem that occurred during production. The Benzene was a contaminant that occurred during the production. It is NOT an ingredient in SPF and never has been just to be very clear. So the misinformation being spread that it’s an actual ingredient listed is completely false. There are sooo many SPF products available that DO protect our skin and are completely safe to use.

Now I’m going to share a couple facts about skin cancer and the importance of SPF☺️ skin cancer is an out of control growth of cells in the epidermis (outermost layer of the skin) this is caused by DNA damage that triggers mutations, these mutations then rapidly multiply and form malignant tumors. The two MAIN causes of this are harmful UV rays and the use of tanning beds. SPF helps to protect that damage from being done to our cells along with the use of an antioxidant which protects against free radical damage as well that is done to our skin daily from pollution, sun exposure, environment etc. Regular use of SPF can decrease your risk of squamous cell carcinoma by 40% and decrease your risk of melanoma by 50%. Along with that there is also another factor that people seem to be forgetting about that plays a large role in the increasing rate of skin cancer like the depleting ozone layer which makes the UVB rays even stronger making the risk of skin cancer increase. I could talk till I’m blue in the face about how important wearing an SPF is but I hope in this post it can change someone’s thoughts on how crucial it is for our skin health. Our skin is our LARGEST organ and we have to care for it. Just because you see one bad thing about a large company SPF product does not mean every single SPF is bad for you! Do your research and by research I mean actually research ingredients and information on SPF, not just share the same post I keep seeing circling around Social media. With warmer weather approaching I wanted to share some facts from the Skin Cancer Foundation! Wear your sunscreen, any sunscreen is safer than no sunscreen at all! And remember there is no such thing as a “safe tan” or a “base tan”. Protect your skin it does a lot for us! 🥰☀️
