September is NICU Awareness Month 💙

Coastal NICU Care Boxes is asking our community to help us support the incredible mommas walking through the NICU journey, and the medical staff caring for their little ones every day. I don’t know what I would have done without the NICU nurses who quite literally held me up during the hardest days.

We’re looking for donations, care box ideas, and community support as we continue creating boxes filled with comfort, encouragement, and practical items for NICU moms and staff.

I’ve read this message over and over. 🤍

One of our Coastal NICU Care Boxes was given to a mom during an unimaginable moment.

And of everything inside the box, the handwritten note was what brought her to tears.

That has stayed with me.

I’ve been the mom that never brought her baby home from NICU, and I’ve been the mom that did.

Coastal NICU Care Boxes was created because I know how long, lonely, overwhelming, and life-changing the NICU can be. These boxes were never meant to simply be a collection of things. They’re meant to remind a mom that someone sees her, someone is thinking of her, and she isn’t alone.

Knowing that one of our boxes offered even a small amount of comfort during a moment like this means more to me than I can put into words.

I’m incredibly grateful to this NICU nurse for reaching out and for allowing me to share her message anonymously. 🤍

One of the things I love most about Coastal NICU Care Boxes is that sometimes our mission extends beyond care boxes.

Today, I had the privilege of delivering CPR kits, generously donated by the American Heart Association, to Driscoll Children’s Hospital.

As a NICU parent myself, I know how empowering it can be to have resources that help families feel more prepared and confident. These CPR kits provide lifesaving education that can make a real difference in an emergency.

Thank you to the American Heart Association for your generosity and for allowing Coastal NICU Care Boxes to help connect these incredible resources with local families.

Thank you as well to Corina and the team at Driscoll Children’s Hospital for everything you do for children and families in our community.

It’s partnerships like these that remind me how much good we can accomplish when organizations come together with one shared goal: supporting families.

Rain and all… we still made kindness happen. ☔️💌

Yesterday at the Bookclub Social Market, visitors wrote notes that will brighten someone else’s day, learned about Coastal NICU Care Boxes, and helped support NICU families in our community.

We also introduced something new: The Kindness Mailbox! 💌

Along with writing encouraging notes for NICU parents, visitors now have the opportunity to write a kind note to anyone in their life. Whether it’s a friend, grandparent, coworker, neighbor, teacher, or someone who’s simply having a hard time, we’ll provide the card, envelope, stamp, and mail it for you. It’s a simple way to spread a little extra kindness, and you’ll be seeing The Kindness Mailbox at future events!

Community is such a beautiful thing. 🤍

Yesterday I dropped off our NICU note-writing station at Explore Play Cafe , and what was supposed to be a quick drop-off (since my son stayed home to sleep) turned into one of those unexpectedly lovely conversations that reminds you there are really good people out there!!

Explore Play Cafe is a locally owned (by two OT’s!) play space designed for families to gather, play, and build community:: and after spending time there, I can honestly say the warmth of the space matches the people behind it.

I’ve mentioned before how much I love finding spaces my son can be comfortable to practice the skills he learns in his therapies (like OT), and this place is definitely going to be a go-to spot for us 💙

If you stop by, play, have a drink, & take a moment to write a note to a NICU mom or dad. A few kind words may seem small, but they can mean everything to someone in survival mode. 🌊✨
