Antelope has now spent nearly 60 days at West Valley City Animal Services, and shelter life is taking a huge toll on him. The shelter is desperately hoping to find an adopter, long-term foster, or rescue placement before the stress of kennel life causes him to decline even further mentally and emotionally.

During a recent weekend foster stay, Antelope proved what an incredible companion he can be. He’s house trained, appears to be crate trained, walks beautifully on a leash, has pretty good recall, knows “sit” and “shake,” doesn’t counter surf, and is highly food motivated. He’s incredibly handler-focused, loves people, enjoys sniffing and exploring, and is surprisingly calm and relaxed around the house. He also loves to cuddle, play, and learn new things. In fact, he recently tried scent work for the first time and absolutely loved it.

Antelope is dog friendly and is still learning canine social skills, but he’s eager to learn and responds incredibly well to guidance. The shelter has walked him through the cat room and he has seemed to do well with cats.

This boy has so much potential. He would thrive with someone who enjoys hiking, adventures, scent work, training, or simply wants an affectionate, loyal companion to share life with. He has everything it takes to be an amazing dog—he just needs someone willing to give him the chance.
