I always tell my clients to moisturize daily and exfoliate 2–3 times a week… but why do I say this so often? Because your aftercare matters just as much as your wax when it comes to getting smooth results.

If you’re not moisturizing, your hair becomes dry and brittle. When that happens, the hair is more likely to break instead of being pulled from the root during your wax. Hair breakage leads to faster regrowth, more of a stubbly feel, and a higher chance of ingrowns.

Exfoliation is just as important. Dead skin builds up over time and can trap the hair underneath the surface. If that dead skin is sitting on the skin, the hair has nowhere to grow out. That’s when you start seeing ingrowns, bumps, and uneven growth. Exfoliating 2–3 times a week keeps the skin clear so the hair can grow out properly.

For moisturizers, I recommend CeraVe Daily Moisturizing Lotion. For exfoliation, you can use an exfoliating glove in the shower with soap, or a chemical exfoliant like Paula’s Choice 2% BHA Liquid Exfoliant. Chemical exfoliants help break down dead skin and clear out the pores so hair doesn’t get trapped.
