Support research on breastfeeding and homebirth 🥰

Dr. Jamie Smith of Illinois State University is studying homebirth mothers' feeding goals and outcomes. She's asking moms in their third trimester to complete an online survey about their plans. You can also participate in an interview if you'd like to share more. She will follow up after your baby arrives to see if you'd like to talk about your birth and breastfeeding experiences.

One of the special things about midwifery is that we aren't too focused on strict schedules and timelines. Every pregnancy and every birth has its own unique timeline! 🤍

We know that birth isn't something we can predict or schedule. Babies have a way of reminding us that they follow their own clocks.

All that being said, it's pretty cool when a baby decides to make their debut during their momma's regularly scheduled prenatal visit! 🥰

We love babies when they come at 2:00 in the morning, too. But there's something pretty neat about a birth that unfolds right in the middle of an otherwise ordinary day, when we were already planning to see you anyway!

Here's to the babies that like a calendar plan! 💕 📅

At exactly this time exactly 12 years ago I had just birthed this little kiddo victoriously on my bedroom floor (on his 3 yr old sisters birthday).
I will never forget how empowering that moment felt as a baby student midwife myself at the time.

Immediately I asked someone to go get me a Mad Goat coffee and a cinnamon roll

This morning another sweet baby boy had a birthday and I got to serve the family their own victory meal. What a gift!! What a great day to be born!

Arriving home after 27 hours gone, actual blood, so much sweat, and plenty of tears on my shirt. Sure, it's hard.

But providing safe, respectful care to families, tucking them into bed with their new baby, making them eggs for their bellies, delivering encouraging words for their hearts- there is nothing better.
