When your hairstylist makes you TOO comfortable!
My client came in complaining that her back was hurting. I told her she could lie down while I did her hair, but she wanted to try my massage chair instead.
She fell asleep while I was doing her hair?!
At Ms. Grace Hair & Spa Salon, we don't just care about your hair. We care about your comfort, too!

Just because someone can accept appointments on a salon booking website does NOT mean they are a licensed cosmetologist!
In Ohio, licensed cosmetologists are required to display their licenses where the public can see them.
Licensed salons must also display the Ohio State Cosmetology and Barber Board's sanitation and infection control rules, along with information explaining how customers can file complaints with the State Board.
These requirements are in place to help protect the public.
The photos shows some of the required information displayed in my salon.
I've been a licensed cosmetologist for over 40 years, and I believe customers should know the difference between someone who simply offers hair services and someone who has completed the education, training, and licensing requirements to practice cosmetology.
Before you sit in someone's chair, ask to see their license.
A booking website is not proof of professional licensing.
Know who is doing your hair. Your health and safety matter!

PLEASE STOP COMPARING LICENSED INDEPENDENT SALONS TO CORPORATE SALONS AND UNLICENSED HAIR PROVIDERS!
I've been a licensed cosmetologist for over 40 years. I've worked in JCPenney, Sears, and Elder-Beerman salons, including management positions. So believe me, I understand BOTH sides of this industry!
I have nothing against Ulta Beauty or JCPenney Salon. I respect them wholeheartedly. But I do have a problem with people acting as though corporate salons are somehow better or more professional than licensed independent salons.
LET'S TALK ABOUT WHAT YOU'RE REALLY PAYING FOR!
In corporate salons, the company generally provides the building, equipment, utilities, and professional products. Their cosmetologists come to work and perform their services.
Independent cosmetologists and salon owners have to pay for EVERYTHING!
Booth rent, building expenses, insurance, professional products, shampoo, conditioners, styling products, equipment, utilities, licenses, continuing education, and maintenance.
That $60 hairstyle doesn't mean we put $60 in our pockets!
We cannot provide professional services for $10 and expect to pay our bills and earn a living!
And those advertised low prices at corporate salons? Remember, prices can increase depending on your hair length, density, stylist experience, and additional services.
When everything is added together, you may find you're paying just as much!
And PLEASE tip those corporate salon cosmetologists! They work hard, too, and their compensation arrangements aren't necessarily the same as those of independent salon owners.
NOW, LET'S TALK ABOUT LICENSING!
There is a difference between a properly licensed cosmetologist and someone simply advertising hair services without the required training or credentials.
Licensed cosmetologists attend school, pass state board examinations, and follow professional sanitation and safety requirements.
We're trained in shampooing, conditioning, proper draping, scalp care, and protecting our clients during services.
Unfortunately, some individuals charge premium prices while requiring clients to arrive already shampooed, conditioned, and blow-dried.
Please don't confuse those practices with the standards of every licensed independent salon!
And here's something else people forget.
Independent cosmetologists often go ABOVE AND BEYOND for our clients.
We come in early, stay late, visit clients in hospitals, nursing homes, and their homes. Some of us even care for our clients after they've passed away, helping their families prepare for their final goodbye.
We watch your children grow up. We celebrate your accomplishments. We comfort you through difficult times.
We're not just your hairstylists. We become part of your FAMILY!
So before comparing independent salons to Ulta Beauty or JCPenney, remember this:
A CORPORATE NAME DOESN'T MAKE A COSMETOLOGIST MORE QUALIFIED, AND OWNING AN INDEPENDENT SALON DOESN'T MAKE US LESS PROFESSIONAL!
We're educated. We're licensed. We're regulated. We invest in our businesses, and we deserve to earn a living.
Respect our education. Respect our licenses. Respect our profession. And PLEASE respect the independent cosmetologists who have spent decades serving their communities!

A Prayer for God's Guidance:
Heavenly Father,
Sometimes we reach a place in life where we don't know which direction to turn. We've done all we know to do, yet the road ahead still seems uncertain.
Lord, when our understanding fails, let Your wisdom lead. When our strength grows weary, renew our spirit.
Sometimes we hold on so tightly to the steering wheel that we forget You're the one who knows the way.
Today, Lord, we surrender the things we cannot control. Guide our footsteps, open the right doors, close the wrong ones, and give us the wisdom to recognize the difference.
Lord, take the wheel. Not because we've given up, but because we trust You to lead us somewhere better.
Whatever tomorrow holds, help us walk into it with faith instead of fear.
In Jesus' name, Amen.
DID YOU KNOW?
Putting a regular conditioner under the dryer does NOT automatically make it a deep conditioner!
It's the conditioner itself—not the heat—that determines whether it's a deep conditioning treatment.
At Ms. Grace Hair & Spa Salon, we believe in giving your hair what it NEEDS, not just putting you under a dryer!
Healthy Hair • Beautiful You
All conditioning upgrades are performed with a shampoo service.

Shampoo, press & pin curls
She brings her own clips, and I shampoo, press, and pin curl her hair. She likes to leave with her curls pinned up and take them down when she’s ready for church or work.
