Yesterday was our weekly Mercadito, and Nina showed us around!
Temperatures soared this week, especially in urban heat islands like our home communities of Globeville, Elyria, and Swansea, and your support helped send families home with cooling coconuts and hydrating fruits like watermelon and apricots. We need your partnership to ensure families have access to essential nutrition and hydration as long, hot days continue, especially in under-resourced neighborhoods with low tree cover.

We are 52% of the way to our goal of raising $20,000 by the end of June to expand our Mercadito and welcome 200 more households this summer, and we urgently need your support TODAY to keep pace with demand. Day 1 of Abejitas (Little Bees), our multi-generational summer program, was extra special because we were joined by our friends at Technologies!! Paralel has been an incredible supporter of The GrowHaus, and we are thrilled their team was able to see such a beloved community program in action. The Paralel team welcomed families with jump rope, face paint, and, of course, the rainbow parachute, then assisted our team in guiding families through games and activities designed to build cooking skills and enhance appreciation for the natural world.

Most families that participate in Abejitas also receive a no-cost food box from The GrowHaus or select produce and pantry staples at our weekly no-cost Mercadito. Complementing this foundation of access to fresh food, Abejitas gives families the chance to bond and enjoy summer fun while building healthy habits and learning new ways to prepare the food they take home.

We had SO much fun planting home gardens for neighbors in Globeville, Elyria, and Swansea today alongside members of our monthly giving community, Tambien! Tambien members provide reliable support year-round, helping us plan for the future and adapt to sudden changes in community needs.

During these times of uncertainty and heightened food insecurity, we need to expand our Tambien program to ensure our fresh food no-cost Mercadito and other programs can grow to meet the need.
