For many women over 40, the dance floor remains a place to feel like themselves.
University of Leeds researchers surveyed 136 women aged 40–65 who attend electronic dance music events. Of those respondents, 91% said clubbing contributed positively to their wellbeing, 65.9% described it as a spiritual experience, and 62.9% said it offered an escape from everyday life.
Published in Psychology of Music, the study captured how closely these nights out were tied to connection and identity. Participants described releasing tension, staying active and finding a community where they could express themselves freely.
