Vetiver root. One of perfumery's most essential raw materials. A grass whose roots are steam distilled into something ancient and complex.
Pulled from the earth in India, Haiti, and Java- the same material, shaped entirely by where it grows.
Smoky or clean. Earthy or mineral. Shadowy or bright. Origin changes everything.
I am currently working with two vetiver oils across the collection, vetiver India and a double-distilled vetiver from Haiti. Each chosen for what it does in a specific formula. A third, from Java, was stunning on its own, but too powerful for what I needed. One day, it will be exactly right.
Vetiver appears in five of the six launch fragrances. In most it holds everything together quietly- a foundation player that makes everything above it possible. In one of the fragrances, it steps forward into the dark nocturnal world of the formula and owns it. Dry earth. Worn skin. It doesn't just linger; it holds everything else there that may have left without it.
After a month of maceration, the collection is finally being filtered and bottled into testers. Watching the juice pass through is one of my favorite parts- each fragrance a different color jewel, sparkling and clear.
Twelve people. Some scent lovers, some just honest. All six fragrances. I can’t wait to hear what they think, no matter what it is.
BotaniCult, 2027.

A scent built on contrast. Cool mineral meets soft warmth-- captivating, intimate, sexy, comforting.
Like being wrapped in a warm blanket while your leg slips onto the cool side of the sheets. You don't ever want to leave.
One of six. BotaniCult, 2027.
Scent is the most powerful memory trigger we have. One smell and you are back somewhere golden, warm, completely free. Music does the same thing. This song found us while we were building one of our six fragrances. We hadn’t heard it before but it felt exactly right.

This gnarly dried up root is orris. It comes from the iris plant and has to dry for up to five years before it can be distilled into orris butter, one of the most expensive natural ingredients in perfumery.
Most people think of orris as a powdery floral note and leave it there. It's actually one of the most versatile ingredients a perfumer can work with. It adds texture more than scent. Powdery, suede-like, warm. If you could feel a fragrance with your nose, orris is part of how that happens. Something like a veil or a warm knitted fabric against skin. Texture. Depth. It seems less like a scent and more like a feeling.
It’s doing its job in a few of our fragrances, and is one of the most special ingredients I work with.
Have you ever worn a fragrance and felt it as much as smelled it?

Heat. Something green and alive. Salt, sweat, incense. The electricity of being near someone you want. The inspiration behind one of our six fragrances.

The number stopped. The obsession did not.

Comfort and cool. Soft and crisp. Both at once.

One material. Every version of it. In perfumery, an overdose isn’t a mistake. It’s a choice.
